By engaging audiences across OkayAfrica’s digital and social platforms, the On-Ground Content Apprentice supports the mission of Areya Media. We are looking for a social-first representative based in Africa, specifically West Africa, to act as a key local face for the brand.
The On-Ground Content Apprentice stays immersed in youth culture, local trends, and community life. We seek a conversational, camera-confident, and curious creator to produce authentic content for African and diaspora audiences. This position will have the following responsibilities and duties:
- Create short-form social-first content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube Shorts, and X.
- Conduct street interviews, vox pops, and community conversations.
- Attend cultural events, concerts, launches, festivals, and local happenings.
- Spotlight local businesses, restaurants, creators, artists, and emerging trends.
- Pitch and develop original social content ideas and recurring series.
- Film simple mobile-first content independently while maintaining strong storytelling instincts.
- Collaborate with OkayAfrica’s editorial and social teams.
- Help represent the voice, energy, humor, and culture of the continent in an authentic way.
An ideal On-Ground Content Apprentice is a true connoisseur of brand identity, social movements, and the broader landscape of Black culture. We are searching for an individual who doesn’t just observe the culture but lives within it—someone capable of entering any environment, from a high-profile event to a local street corner, and instantly fostering genuine connection and curiosity.
Candidates for this role should possess a robust combination of the following experience, education, and skills:
- Strong social media presence and understanding of internet culture.
- Comfortable speaking to strangers and hosting on camera.
- Naturally charismatic, energetic, conversational, and community-oriented.
- Passionate about African culture, youth culture, music, fashion, lifestyle, and storytelling.
- Experience in journalism, communications, media, hosting, or digital content creation preferred.
- Able to work independently and move quickly in fast-paced environments.
- Based in Africa (West Africa preferred for current hiring phase).

- Part-time commitment with a maximum of 24 hours of work each week
Areya Media, LLC offers the following total compensation package upon full-time hire.
- Monthly rate: $700
