This role is based in Malta which is recognised for its robust regulatory framework for payments and virtual financial assets.

Company Overview

ONE.io was founded in 2017 as an OTC digital asset trading desk, serving high-net-worth individuals, corporates, and institutional clients globally. Recognising that our clients – generally in sectors underserved by the traditional banking system – were facing tremendous difficulty in the movement of fiat funds, we undertook to resolve this industry pain point by shifting our focus toward the provision of payment services. We subsequently acquired our PI licence from the FCA in 2020, and launched our proprietary payments platform in 2021.

Today we provide a unified end-to-end financial services solution for corporate clients through our core propositions - ONE.io Connect (Payments Platform), ONE.io Fusion (OTC Crypto Trading and Crypto Gateway). We leverage a strong network of banking partners and regulatory licenses to serve clients effectively on a global scale.

Through a single onboarding journey with us, clients get access to a full suite of products and services, including named IBANs in multiple fiat currencies, foreign exchange, and access to payment rails including SWIFT, SEPA, Faster Payments and CHAPS.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and driven professional to lead and oversee the establishment and ongoing operations of a Payments Institution (PI) and CASP organization. This role is critical in ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and sustainable growth within a highly regulated financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing PI and CASP operations team.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including legal, finance, product, and technology.
• Foster a culture of compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Product & Innovation

• Support the development and launch of PI and CASP related products and services.
• Work closely with product and tech teams to ensure compliance-by-design.
• Stay updated on industry trends, fintech innovation, and regulatory changes.

Operations & Strategy

• Build and manage the PI operational framework, including payments, safeguarding, and transaction monitoring.
• Develop and execute the company’s PI and CASP strategy aligned with overall business objectives.
• Ensure efficient onboarding, KYC/AML processes, and customer lifecycle management.
• Monitor operational performance and implement improvements where necessary.

Regulatory & Compliance

• Support the operational set up of One.io (Valletta) Limited, including, but not limited to, completing the hiring of key roles. This is a necessary step in the final phases of the license request process.
• Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations, including AML/CFT, PSD2, and local Maltese requirements.
• Act as a key point of contact with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of internal policies, procedures, and controls.

Risk Management

• Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, and compliance risks.
• Implement robust risk management frameworks and reporting structures.
• Ensure safeguarding of client funds in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Skills and Experience

Experience

• Proven leadership experience at MD or C-level
• Financial services, fintech, payments experience is a must. Crypto experience is highly desirable
• Proven experience working within or setting up a PI, a CASP or similar regulated entity.
• Strong knowledge of EU financial regulations, particularly PSD2 and AML directives.
• Experience interacting with regulatory authorities (MFSA experience is highly desirable).

• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Deep understanding of payments, e-money, and financial operations.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Law, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Relevant certifications in compliance, risk, or financial services are a plus.
