The Workforce Support Coordinator will lead, support, and expand career readiness, workforce development, youth mental wellness, or summer day camp initiatives for youth and young adults across the YMCA of Muncie service area. This position will provide direct support to workforce participants, summer camp staff, and campers while assisting the Director of Youth Development in delivering high-quality programs that promote career readiness, social-emotional development, and positive youth outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Support programming for workforce development participants. 
  • Collaborate with professionals, school counselors, community agencies, and YMCA partners to provide resources, referrals, and support services for youth and young adults. 
  • Support the implementation of best practices across workforce development and summer day camp programs. 
  • Assist in planning and delivering professional learning opportunities focused on youth mental health, resilience, conflict resolution, stress management, and workplace wellness. 
  • Serve as a resource for summer day camp staff regarding youth behavior management, emotional regulation, and positive youth development practices. 
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that fosters emotional wellness and personal growth for workforce participants and campers.
  • Serve as support to the Director of Youth Development by assisting with YMCA Summer Day Camp programs. 
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and support to workforce development student participants assigned to summer camp work experiences. 
  • Assist with activity planning, camper transitions, and behavior management. 
  • Support seasonal camp staff and workforce development participants. 
  • Coordinate workforce development learning opportunities within summer camp operations to provide hands-on employment experiences. 
  • Assist in maintaining a positive camp culture. 
  • Ensure activities align with YMCA youth development outcomes and workforce readiness competencies. 
  • Support special events, field trips, enrichment activities, and community partnerships connected to workforce and summer camp programming. 
  • Provide temporary leadership coverage during the absence of designated camp staff.
  • Provide 1:1 support for youth throughout work-based learning, including evaluations and graduation pathway alignment.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years of age. 
  • Must be able to pass background screenings.
  • Six months or more previous experience with young adults preferred.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications required within 30 days of hire.
  • Child Abuse Prevention Training prior to first shift.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic
     segments of the community
  • Basic knowledge of computers.
  • Must be able to travel regionally to program sites (e.g., Camp Crosley, East Central Indiana).
  • Must have a clean driving record and be able to pass the authorized driver test given by YMCA insurer 
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.
  • Must pass background check and child abuse prevention training.

  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, to climb or balance, to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, occasionally bending or squatting.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Workforce Development, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience in youth programming, workforce development, or community engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills.
  • Experience with community partnerships, work-based learning, or grant programs preferred.
  • Proficiency in data entry, reporting tools, and digital platforms 
  • Provides excellent service to members, guests, and program participants in the Y, contributing to member retention. Be courteous and use individual names when speaking to members.
  • Handles and resolves concerns and informs supervisors of unusual situations or unresolved issues and applies all YMCA policies dealing with member services.
  • Upholds guidelines as outlines in the Employee Handbook of the Association. 
  • Performs as a professional staff member on duty as well other as assignments by supervisor or management staff.
  • Monitors the maintenance of a clean, safe, and sanitary environment and meets all state and local licensing requirements.
