Job Summary: As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at PayPal, you will play a key role in shaping the quality, reliability, and performance of mobile applications used by millions of customers. You will design and maintain robust mobile automation frameworks, integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines, and partner closely with engineering teams to embed quality throughout the Software Development Lifecycle. This role goes beyond test execution and offers meaningful technical ownership and influence. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, make informed technical decisions, and help guide best practices across mobile teams. In addition, you will mentor junior engineers and contribute to improving engineering standards, ensuring PayPal continues to deliver fast, secure, and delightful mobile experiences at scale using modern tools and platforms. Job Description: Essential Responsibilities: * Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles. * Advises immediate management on project-level issues * Guides junior engineers * Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices * Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions Minimum Qualifications: * 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications: * Professional experience in software engineering, SDET, or a related role, with significant hands-on experience testing and automating mobile applications. * Strong programming skills in one or more languages commonly used for mobile automation, such as Java, Kotlin, Swift/Objective-C, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python. * Hands-on experience with mobile test automation frameworks including Appium, Espresso, XCUITest, Detox, or similar tools. * Candidate with XCUITest experience preferred. * Proven ability to design and maintain scalable, reliable mobile test frameworks for both iOS and Android platforms. * Experience integrating mobile test automation into CI/CD pipelines and working with device farm services such as AWS Device Farm, Firebase Test Lab, Sauce Labs, or BrowserStack. * Strong understanding of mobile application architecture, including lifecycle management, threading, memory, networking, and permissions. * Demonstrated ability to debug native mobile crashes, instrumentation issues, and performance-related problems. * Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating within Agile, cross-functional engineering teams.
