Job Summary:
Consumer at PayPal is the full picture. Payments, rewards, shopping, wallet, post-purchase, notifications, agentic surfaces. It's one of the most complex content environments in fintech, and it's changing faster than it ever has.
We're looking for a Senior Staff Content Designer who operates at the intersection of content, systems, and AI, someone who doesn't just do the work but shapes how the work gets done across a large, multi-team org.
This is a leadership role without a management title. That distinction matters. You won't be measured by headcount. You'll be measured by how much better the content org gets because you're in it. That means building infrastructure other designers can build on, making decisions that hold up across product areas, and knowing when to go deep and when to pull back and set direction.

* Develop clear objectives and priorities within content design to deliver results and meet organizational goals
* Influence decision-making at the senior leadership level
* Perform the most highly complex work assignments using domain knowledge and extensive business expertise
* Develop and deliver innovative content design strategies that enhance user experience and benefit customers and/or clients
* Lead major business projects which impact the content design unit or the product function
* Design, evaluate, and select process, product, and service improvements based on thorough understanding of business needs and industry trends

What you'll do
You'll set content strategy across Consumer product surfaces and own the systems that make that strategy real and scalable. That includes the governance frameworks that capture decisions before they get lost, the AI-ready content layers that give engineering and legal partners the context they need, and the standards that travel with content from a designer's intent all the way to a production string.
You'll define what AI-native content design looks like at PayPal. That means building and evolving content skills and governance layers in Claude, designing for agentic surfaces where content isn't just read but acted on by AI intermediaries, and helping the org understand what it means to write for both human users and the systems that serve them.
You'll be the person other designers come to when they're trying to figure out how to approach something that hasn't been figured out yet.
You'll own complex, high-visibility problems that cross team boundaries. Checkout, rewards, personalization, post-purchase, notifications. These surfaces don't exist in isolation and neither does the content strategy that serves them. You'll bring coherence to a system that has a lot of moving parts and a lot of stakeholders with opinions about all of them.
You'll partner with design leadership, product, engineering, research, and legal. You'll influence roadmaps, shape how AI investments get framed for users, and help the org make better content decisions upstream, before things are built, not after.
And you'll grow the practice. Through mentorship, through infrastructure, through the kind of thinking that raises the floor for everyone around you.
What you bring
You have 8+ years of content design experience, with meaningful time spent on large, complex consumer product surfaces. You've worked at the Staff level and you're ready for what comes next, which is less about doing more and more about shaping how others do better.
You think in systems. You've built content governance that scales, you've worked through what happens when a decision needs to travel across markets and legal requirements and engineering constraints, and you've done that work in environments where the stakes were real. You know the difference between a style guide and actual infrastructure, and you've built the latter.
You're genuinely advanced in your understanding of AI, not just as a user of AI tools but as someone who thinks about how AI changes the nature of content design. You've worked on or are actively building expertise in agentic experiences. You understand dual-audience content, writing for the human who reads and the AI that acts. You've gotten into the tools, GitHub, Claude Code, whatever closes the gap between content decisions and production reality, and you see that as core to the job, not adjacent to it.
You lead without authority and you're good at it. You can align a room of senior stakeholders on a direction, push back when something isn't right, and bring people along without making it a fight. You write and communicate with the kind of clarity that makes complex things feel obvious in retrospect.
You're curious, rigorous, and comfortable with ambiguity. You don't need the problem to be fully defined before you start working on it. You bring structure to chaos and you know when to stop structuring and start shipping.

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:
