Essential Functions
- Lead and manage multiple sow farms by partnering with and developing unit managers to keep them energized, engaged and successful.
- Frequently conduct farm site visits to provide hands-on production support and guidance to farm managers, employees and owners.
- Regularly work alongside farm employees to help with their daily activities to build relationships, keep a pulse on the team dynamics, and to oversee the farm’s processes.
- Assist in overseeing the overall production status, safety and compliance requirements.
- Assess production numbers and evaluate factors that impact production goals.
- Assist in ensuring that managers and farm personnel have the necessary training, supplies and tools to meet production goals.
- Assist in troubleshooting health challenges of pigs as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with the PCM, veterinarians, other departments, and farm owners.
- Assist in continuous improvement efforts in the health and welfare of all animals.
- Benchmark production results to industry and client standards.
- Implement protocols for sites under the direction of PCM.
- Assist managers in driving employee engagement in order to achieve production goals.
- Understand and adhere to bio-security procedures for each site.
- Promote and demonstrate safe animal handling practices.
- Occasionally, may serve as an interim unit manager or provide longer-term additional support at the sow farms in which PCM manages.
- Use Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Internet Explorer to run reports, create documents, enter data, and to navigate and locate important documents
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. This position may occasionally require long hours and weekend work, especially during health and/or staffing challenges.
Travel
This position requires extensive travel, as most of the position involves traveling to and working from clients’ locations. Frequent out-of-area and overnight travel is expected.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED diploma, or 5 years of related sow farm experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience on a sow farm in gestation and/or farrowing.
- Demonstrated proficiency in all areas of breeding and gestation.
- Demonstrated proficiency in all areas of farrowing.
- Keen ability to analyze and interpret production records.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, teamwork, production, problem solving and communication skills.

Preferred Education and Experience
- 2+ years’ experience as a Lead on a sow farm in gestation and/or farrowing.
- Experience with nursery and finishing pigs.
- Previous leadership experience, training and/or other relevant certification(s).
- Previous human resources experience, training and/or other relevant certifications(s).
- 2 – 4-year degree in Animal Science or Veterinary Technician.
- Demonstrated skills in using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Internet Explorer.
