The Generator Area Manager is responsible for successfully managing a team of technicians and ensuring the operation, maintenance, repair, servicing, and performance checks of cell tower generators. Examples of the responsibilities of the of the Area Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsibilities
~3 min read- →Supervises Generator Technicians in their area:
- →assists in prescreening and interviewing;
- →provides technical and procedural training;
- →proactively leads performance management efforts with all team members, partnering with HR and HSE to reinforce safe work practices, competency, accountability, and compliance with company policies.
- →Ensure all direct reports understand and consistently comply with Pearce from CBRE policies, procedures, Life Critical Rules, and applicable regulatory
- →Completes employee initial 90-day and 6-month performance appraisals as well as ongoing mid-year and annual performance appraisals.
- →Ensures the continuous operation of generators and associated equipment.
- →Ensures that generators are set up and maintained properly.
- →Oversee the daily reporting from previous workday; responsible for technicians responding to work and their completions in a timely manner.
- →Establish routine procedures and ensures that routine maintenance is performed on generators; record keeping of tests and preventative maintenance checks are completed.
- →Coordinates with Senior Management on the evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of equipment with potential upgrades and additions
- →Reviews equipment trouble reports and ensures alarms are cleared in a timely manner.
- →Requisitions materials and supplies as needed and maintains adequate inventory levels.
- →Completes activities, reports, analysis, and research, etc. as required.
- →Assists with dispatch & scheduling needs.
- →Maintains the correct job status and all job updates in Pearce’s reporting system.
- →Supports the creation of timely submittal of quotes by providing accurate pricing of jobs.
- →Is available to update customer on current status of work orders as needed.
- →Assists with installation, maintenance, repairing, or correcting problems throughout the many mechanical and electrical systems in the field.
- →Maintains a high service level by providing problem resolutions or forwarding inquiries to appropriate personnel or technicians.
- →Prepare reports related to generator problems and questions for management review and action.
- →Attend training sessions on new products and technology to maintain a high degree of competence.
- →Ensures technicians complete required technical, safety, and compliance training, verifies competency where applicable, and escalates operational support needs (e.g., fleet, IT, tools, equipment) to minimize execution risk.
- →Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with customers and personnel.
- →Partners effectively with Fleet, Procurement, HSE, Human Resources, and other support functions to ensure technicians have the resources, equipment, training, and support necessary to perform work safely and efficiently.
- →Ensures vehicles, tools, equipment, and safety devices are inspected, maintained, and available for use in accordance with company requirements and manufacturer recommendations.
- →Travels to worksites as required.
- →Works independently with minimum or no supervision in remote locations as needed.
- →Promotes a strong safety culture by ensuring work is planned and executed with appropriate hazard identification and risk controls. Reinforces compliance with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety requirements, energy isolation procedures, PPE requirements, and other applicable safe work practices. Participates in required safety meetings, training, and operational reviews.
- →Ensures work is performed in compliance with customer requirements, applicable regulations, industry standards, and Pearce from CBRE policies, procedures, and HSE expectations while holding technicians accountable for safe execution.
- →Complete all other required duties as assigned and required of the role to meet business needs (this list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties).
- →Leads field safety through routine jobsite visits, coaching, safety observations, corrective action follow-up, incident learning, and reinforcement of critical risk controls to support safe and consistent field execution.
- →Ensures compliance with environmental requirements related to fuel handling, spill prevention and response, waste management, and proper disposal of regulated materials.
Requirements
~2 min read- 5 or more years in mechanical or generator industry (management experience preferred)
- Maintenance / Repair supervisory experience required
- Thorough knowledge of generator systems, electronic, mechanical, and electrical components, with working knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements governing generator service operations. Proficient with computer systems and possesses strong mechanical and communication skills.
- Communicate effectively, both in written and verbal skills in a professional and courteous manner to co-workers and the general public; able to complete work accurately under time constraints and deadlines; able to work independently; valid driver’s license; DOT certification; team player.
- Position requires lifting over 50 pounds, stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, and standing for long periods of time.
- Able to communicate orally via telephone.
- Must have the ability to inspect and/or troubleshoot equipment/alarms effectively, both visually and audibly
- Must be willing and able to drive long distances and work hours as needed including workday, evening or night hours; overtime, emergency callouts, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship with all company personnel.
- Maintains a professional relationship with contractual contacts and perpetuates Pearce’s positive image in all transactions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead safe field operations through hazard recognition, risk assessment, coaching, incident learning, and regulatory compliance.
