Bike Program Instructor - Community Youth

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is hiring part-time instructors for its growing after-school watershed education program. Watershed Education by Bike (WEB) is a groundbreaking program that gets youth active by teaching them how to safely ride in urban, suburban and trail environments, while also focusing on watershed and environmental education. Bicycles allow students to get out of the classroom and offer hands-on experiential learning opportunities in the community. When working in multiple environments, instructors will lead a group of 13 students in grades 5th-8th on program-owned bicycles through the trails in Camden and Burlington Counties, NJ. Ask us how we do it at the Y- it's awesome!   What is needed for this job:  High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred Must be available Monday – Friday between 2:00pm – 6:00pm Experience or interest in physical activity & environmental education Must be willing to travel throughout Camden City, and Burlington and Camden counties Have a basic knowledge of bicycle mechanics and be able to ride a bicycle at 8-12 MPH Strong classroom management, conflict resolution, and oral communication skills Ability to complete tasks independently.   The responsibilities we will trust you with: Teach participants basic bicycle safety and maintenance Teach participants watershed and environmental education through the implementation of a provided program curriculum.
