About Us
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) is the state’s leading provider of sexual and reproductive health care, nationally recognized for education and research. Our mission: ensure everyone in Massachusetts has access to compassionate, judgment-free care and education. We operate four health centers and offer telehealth statewide as part of a network of 600 Planned Parenthood affiliates nationwide.

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role in delivering high‑quality, patient‑facing services throughout each patient visit. PCAs work both at the front desk/lobby and within the health center, ensuring compassionate, professional, and efficient care at every touchpoint.

PCAs serve as a welcoming first point of contact for patients and provide essential clinical and administrative support under the supervision and delegation of licensed clinical staff. This role requires attention to detail, strong judgment, effective communication, and a commitment to patient confidentiality and dignity.

  • Greet and assist patients as the first point of contact.
  • Check patients in/out, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and assist walk‑ins.
  • Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR); maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Take and record vital signs; collect medical history information per protocol.
  • Assist providers during exams and procedures.
  • Provide patient education and support informed consent workflows.
  • Perform waived and moderately complex lab testing.
  • Process refill requests and contraceptive supply sales; manage cash handling.
  • Maintain cleanliness, stock supplies, and follow OSHA and safety protocols.
  • Support team members and assist with resolving patient concerns.
  • High School Diploma/GED required; medical assistant training preferred.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Customer service or healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Comfort working with diverse patient populations.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and remain active throughout most of the shift.
