The Vice President of Marketing and Communications leads a team of communications and digital specialists, public relations and marketing professionals, and external marketing/design firms that support the Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin brand internally and externally. The role integrates earned, owned, paid and organic media, sets out the overall communications strategy for public policy campaigns, organizational advertising, outreach events, and internal communications across departments. The role centers the staff, patient, and community member experience to support an overall sense of belonging to the organization. The position plays a key leadership role translating cross-functional strategic initiatives into actionable plans that create clarity, consistency, and trust across staff, board, patient, donor, partner, and supporter audiences.

- Must show a demonstrated ability to communicate a range of topics impacting organizational brand and targeted audiences such as health care services, public health outcomes, fund development and educational programming, public policy and legal proposals and impacts.
- Must have an ability to develop organization-wide marketing and communication strategies.
- Must have demonstrated expertise in media relations, rapid response, and crisis communication.
- Experience with MS365 applications.
- Experience with project management tools/systems.
- Must have a strong understanding of the evolving dynamics of communications and narrative building.
- Must show an ability to balance multiple projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in policy, communications, journalism, political science, psychology or related field required.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive communications experience, including roles in public relations, communication, marketing, and executive–level leadership.
- Experience in the fields of health care delivery and innovation, reproductive health, public health, government programs, advocacy and public policy, or litigation preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered.
- Must have demonstrated supervisory experience.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

This position may include occasional travel. Must have access to transportation. If driving personal vehicle, a valid driver's license and auto insurance in accordance with agency liability standards is required
- Create internal and external communications priorities for audiences including patients, supporters, partner organizations and donors that are informed by and aligned with agency mission and strategic goals.
- Support senior leadership by developing partnerships to inform and support PPWI projects across departments.
- Lead the development and execution of the organization-wide paid marketing strategy in alignment with PPWI’s mission and annual priorities.
- Oversee annual and quarterly planning, workflows, staffing, and resource allocation for the department.
- Establish goals that measure impact on patient acquisition, engagement, internal communication effectiveness, and brand trust.
- Ensure the department’s use of technology, digital tools, and shared systems improves collaboration and eliminates inefficiencies
- Ensure timely, transparent, and consistent internal communications that support staff stability, alignment, and trust.
- Oversee internal messages related to organizational change, cross-department updates, and leadership communications.
- Develop a plan for and oversee the strengthening feedback loops to ensure staff input informs decisions and communication improvements.
- Collaborate closely across departments to ensure integrated communication strategies.
- Direct the creation and implementation of multi-channel marketing campaigns to increase patient volume, awareness of new services, and digital booking success.
- Ensure PPWI’s websites, digital platforms, and patient communications reflect accurate, accessible, and up-to-date information.
- Oversee social media growth, digital advocacy, influencer partnerships, and paid advertising strategies
- Lead proactive and reactive media strategies to strengthen PPWI’s reputation and respond to shifts in abortion access, political landscapes, and public health issues.
- Lead communications response to crisis situations, develop crisis comms plans for the organization and oversee the execution of external communications from messengers across departments.
- Serve as a key spokesperson or oversee preparation of other executive leaders for media engagement and public speaking events.
- Oversee the staff and systems that build and maintain relationships with media outlets, partners, and coalition organizations.
- Build and advance PPWI’s storytelling strategy, ensuring patient-supporter stories are collected, developed, and used ethically to advance advocacy, fundraising, and public awareness.
- Oversee content development that strengthens community trust, reduces stigma, and supports PPWI’s advocacy and education initiatives.
- Provides cross-functional leadership on external relations strategies for executive office, outreach and development departments.
