This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for delivering accurate, compliant and scalable payroll outcomes while actively managing payroll risk as the business grows. You’ll lead and develop a team of Payroll Officers across brands, partner closely with Finance and People & Culture, and provide senior leadership with confidence that payroll systems, controls and compliance obligations are managed accurately and effectively.

Reporting to the VP Finance & Operations (Petal & Pup), this role sits at the intersection of payroll delivery, compliance, governance, and operational decision-making. You’ll play a critical role in enabling growth, protecting the business, and supporting a strong employee experience.
  • Lead end-to-end payroll operations across Princess Polly and Petal & Pup, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and consistency
  • Manage and develop Payroll Officers across both brands, building capability. 
  • Own payroll governance, compliance and risk management, ensuring adherence to all relevant Australian payroll legislation and awards
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll matters, audits, and external stakeholders (ATO, auditors, regulators)
  • Oversee statutory reporting, including PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax, STP, ESS and other regulatory obligations
  • Lead the operational ownership and optimisation of the Rippling payroll platform, including award interpretation, system configuration, testing and change management
  • Partner closely with Finance, People & Culture (TX), and Technology to ensure payroll systems and processes support business growth
  • Drive continuous improvement through automation, process optimisation and strong payroll controls

  • Extensive experience leading payroll in a complex, multi award environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards and statutory obligations
  • Proven experience managing payroll compliance, governance frameworks and audits
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing payroll teams
  • Proven hands on experience with payroll systems, with Rippling experience highly advantageous. Experience with NetSuite or Ento also regarded
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem solving capability
  • Confident communicator who can translate complex payroll matters into clear, practical advice
