This position is part of the highly successful Biomedical Engineering@Perkins initiative, a unique collaboration that places biomedical engineers alongside clinicians and medical researchers to accelerate the development of life-changing healthcare innovations.

The successful appointee will be co-located within the School of Engineering and the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, one of Western Australia’s leading medical research institutes. The Perkins brings together more than 250 researchers focused on tackling cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, genetic diseases and other major health challenges through collaborative, translational research.

About the Role

As a Senior Lecturer (Biomedical Engineering), you will play a pivotal role in advancing both research excellence and teaching innovation within a vibrant and collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and leading a high-impact research program aligned with the Harry Perkins Institute, with a particular focus on cardiovascular biomechanics and translational biomedical engineering.
  • Developing nationally and internationally recognised research collaborations across engineering, medicine, healthcare and industry.
  • Securing competitive research funding and publishing in leading peer-reviewed journals.
  • Supervising Higher Degree by Research (HDR), postgraduate, Honours and undergraduate students.
  • Delivering engaging, innovative teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate Biomedical Engineering programs, particularly in biomechanics.
  • Contributing to curriculum development, student placements, industry engagement and clinical partnerships.
  • Supporting the leadership, governance and strategic development of the School, Department and research initiatives.

  • A PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Cardiovascular Biomechanics or a closely related discipline.
  • A strong research track record demonstrated through high-quality peer-reviewed publications, successful competitive grant funding and research impact.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cardiovascular biomechanics with research aligned to translational health, cardiovascular science or related biomedical applications.
  • Experience developing successful interdisciplinary collaborations with clinicians, healthcare researchers, universities and/or industry partners.
  • Proven commitment to teaching excellence, student supervision and inclusive educational practices within higher education.
