About the Role

~3 min read
As our Senior Product Design Engineer, you'll own and deliver commercially viable, market-ready product design and engineering solutions across a defined portfolio of NPD programs, from roadmap item through to market-ready product.

This is a role for someone who's equally comfortable leading complex ground-up design as they are steering a supplier co-development program through DFM, qualification and gate reviews. You'll operate within Quad Lock's fast-paced, engineering-led stage gate process and collaborate closely with teams across product, operations, marketing and commercial - while nurturing relationships with our overseas manufacturers and suppliers to keep programs on time, on budget and on spec.

This is a hands-on, outcome-focused 12 month fixed term contract role embedded within a collaborative, high-performing product development team.
  • Take full end-to-end ownership of assigned NPD programs, steering projects from roadmap brief through stage gate milestones to market-ready solutions
  • Lead the development of both ground-up and supplier co-development programs, applying sound commercial and engineering judgement to understand the most appropriate development path

  • Drive design ideation, concept development, engineering validation and DFM optimisation across assigned programs

  • Execute and support robust designs that meet all given requirements, or are able to prioritise conflicting requirements and identify best-fit design directions based on sound engineering principles

  • Lead design reviews, ensuring solutions meet both engineering requirements and a high standard of industrial design; considering form, proportion, material expression and alignment with Quad Lock's visual brand language

  • Manage and steer overseas supplier and manufacturer relationships, providing clear technical direction, reviewing feedback, resolving design and tooling issues, and keeping programs on track

  • Prepare and present clearly structured gate review presentations, providing stakeholders with evidence-based recommendations at each program milestone

  • Carry out engineering calculations aligned with specific performance targets to ensure compliant design solutions where material selections and manufacturing techniques align

  • Develop and maintain detailed design documentation including drawings, specifications and Bill of Materials

  • Demonstrated experience delivering consumer products to market in a stage-gate environment
  • Extensive experience in a similar product design engineering role

  • Bachelor's degree in: Product Design Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design or equivalent Engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated experience taking products from concept through to market, on both ground-up and supplier co-development programs

  • Deep familiarity with stage gate product development processes in a fast-moving consumer goods environment

  • Ability to manage overseas suppliers and manufacturers, providing technical direction, navigating tooling and DFM challenges, and maintaining program momentum

  • Strong experience engaging cross-functional stakeholders throughout the product development process

  • Effective planning and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple programs within defined timeframes and commercial constraints

  • Ability to work through ambiguity, comfortable navigating uncertainty and finding a path forward without waiting for perfect information
