We are seeking a skilled Construction Layout & Survey Specialist to support structural steel projects throughout Maryland, Virginia, and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic region. This is primarily a field-based role responsible for collecting accurate survey data, verifying layout, and supporting steel installation activities on active construction sites.
The ideal candidate has experience with construction surveying, structural steel layout, and modern survey technology while maintaining a strong commitment to accuracy and safety.
Perform field surveys using total stations and other surveying equipment to collect precise construction data.
Establish control points, building grid lines, column locations, and anchor rod placement for structural steel installation.
Verify elevations, alignment, and embedded components throughout the construction process.
Prepare and update accurate as-built drawings and field documentation.
Support structural steel erection by confirming proper positioning, alignment, and plumbness.
Coordinate layout activities with field crews and other construction trades to ensure installation accuracy.
Assist with the installation and layout of structural steel, stairs, shafts, and miscellaneous metal components.
Utilize Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Office to document, review, and manage project information.
Follow all job site safety procedures and promote safe work practices during field operations.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in field surveying, construction layout, or structural steel erection.
Experience surveying grades, slopes, structural steel, and miscellaneous metal installations.
Proficiency using a Total Station or similar surveying equipment.
Knowledge of AISC standards related to structural alignment, layout, and building orientation.
Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
Comfortable working at heights, including elevated steel structures and aerial lifts.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate measurements and documentation.
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with project teams in the field.
