We are seeking a Buyer Planner to support manufacturing operations through a combination of purchasing, material planning, and supplier coordination. This role manages the flow of materials from supplier purchase orders through production delivery while ensuring components are available to support manufacturing schedules.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with buyer/planner responsibilities in a manufacturing environment, understands ERP/MRP systems, and can manage material requirements for assembled products. This position works closely with supply chain, engineering, production, quality, and suppliers to maintain efficient material flow.

Travel: Up to 10% for supplier visits and industry events.

  • Create and manage purchase orders for manufacturing components, including electrical and electromechanical parts such as:
    • Wires and cables
    • Energy meters
    • Circuit breakers
    • Contactors
    • Transformers
    • Bus bars
    • Enclosures
    • Cable assemblies
    • Switchgear components
    • Support supplier selection, qualification, and ongoing supplier performance management.
    • Work with suppliers to maintain delivery schedules, quality expectations, and material availability.
    • Manage standard purchases, custom materials, and production-related procurement activities.
    • Monitor supplier risks, including long-lead materials, single-source components, and potential supply disruptions.
  • Use ERP/MRP systems to review demand requirements, create purchase plans, and support production schedules.
  • Manage material flow from purchase order creation through receiving, inventory storage, picking, assembly, and shipment.
  • Maintain accurate material data, including lead times, reorder points, minimum order quantities, and inventory requirements.
  • Identify and resolve material shortages that may impact production.
  • Coordinate with production teams to ensure materials are available when needed.
  • Support inventory accuracy through cycle counts, reconciliation, and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on bills of materials (BOMs), design changes, and new product requirements.
  • Partner with quality teams on supplier issues, corrective actions, and non-conforming materials.
  • Work with receiving and logistics teams to track incoming materials and resolve delivery issues.
  • Participate in production planning meetings, supply reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor supply chain performance metrics, including supplier delivery performance, inventory levels, material shortages, and purchasing data.
  • Support cost improvement initiatives and supplier optimization efforts.
  • Improve purchasing and planning processes through effective ERP usage and data accuracy.
  • Participate in lean manufacturing and process improvement activities.
  • Minimum of 5 years of buyer/planner experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Experience purchasing materials for manufactured or assembled products.
  • Experience procuring electrical or electromechanical components, including wires, cables, energy meters, or similar components.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as:
    • SAP
    • Oracle
    • NetSuite
    • Epicor
    • Infor
    • Other established ERP platforms
    • Strong understanding of ERP/MRP processes, demand planning, and material flow.
    • Understanding of purchasing processes from supplier order placement through receipt, inventory management, and production use.
    • Ability to read and understand technical specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing requirements.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • APICS certification or qualifications through the American Production and Inventory Control Society is highly preferred.
  • Experience with power distribution equipment, electrical assemblies, switchgear, UPS systems, or similar products.
  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma or continuous improvement programs.
  • Knowledge of electrical industry standards such as UL, ANSI, IEC, NEMA, or NEC.
  • Experience with supplier development, international sourcing, or import processes.

  • Primary work setting is a manufacturing and assembly facility.
  • Regular computer-based work involving ERP transactions, reporting, supplier communication, and planning activities.
  • Exposure to production areas, industrial materials, and moderate equipment noise.
  • Occasional supplier and warehouse visits.
  • Ability to walk through production areas and participate in inventory activities.
  • Some lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required.
  • This role is ideal for an experienced Buyer Planner who understands both purchasing and production planning. The successful candidate will help ensure materials are available, suppliers perform effectively, and manufacturing operations run smoothly.
