We are hiring a Field Survey Technician to support structural and miscellaneous steel projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic. This position works primarily at active construction sites, where you’ll collect survey information, perform layout and alignment checks, and help steel crews maintain accurate installation.
Regular travel between job sites is required, along with the ability to work safely in elevated and active construction areas.
- Collect and document field measurements and survey information for construction activities.
- Establish building control lines, column locations, and anchor rod positions.
- Check elevations, embed placement, alignment, and structural orientation.
- Prepare or assist with as-built drawings.
- Support structural steel erection by verifying positioning, alignment, and placement.
- Coordinate with other trades to maintain proper plumbness and structural accuracy.
- Assist with installation activities involving structural and miscellaneous steel, including stairs and shafts.
- Use Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Office for surveying, documentation, and project support.
- Follow site safety requirements and promote safe work practices.
- Travel regularly to construction sites throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Work from elevated steel floors and aerial lifts as required.
- 3+ years of experience in structural steel erection, field surveying, or a related construction field.
- Experience with surveying slopes, grades, and layout for structural and miscellaneous metals.
- Proficiency using a total station or similar surveying equipment.
- Working knowledge of AISC standards related to building alignment and orientation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate field measurements.
- Comfortable working at heights, including aerial lifts and elevated steel floors.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with onsite crews and other trades.
- Willingness to travel regularly between regional job sites.
- Company vehicle and gas card provided for work-related travel.
- Projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Ongoing training and support.
- Primarily field-based, with occasional time at office or shop locations for training and meetings.
