Digital Forensics and Incident Response Specialist - Learnership

A prominent risk and insurance organisation is seeking a meticulous Digital Forensics and Incident Response Specialist to join their specialist technical team on a learnership. This role centers on investigating, analysing, and resolving security incidents while carrying out detailed forensic evaluations across varied digital landscapes. The successful candidate will apply analytical and critical-thinking methods to audit system logs, secure digital evidence, and assess prospective security risks. This position offers an ideal space to utilise specialized investigation software, examine cloud and network log data, and support technical defense operations. Working Hours: Standard office hours (Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00). Key Responsibilities: Evaluate Microsoft system logs and navigate file structures to trace malicious activity and meet investigation objectives. Utilise forensic tools to capture, process, and evaluate digital artifacts during active incidents. Implement robust evidence-handling protocols to ensure strict chain-of-custody tracking throughout investigations. Assist in configuring and deploying technical environments for penetration testing and forensic testing features. Execute root-cause analyses on security events, record findings, and convey technical insights clearly. Support incident response workflows by examining operating system, network, and file system data. Requirements Degree or diploma in Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, Information Technology, or a related discipline. 0–2 years of hands-on experience within IT support, digital forensics, or incident response. Demonstrated practical exposure to forensic software, specifically FTK Imager and Autopsy. Practical understanding of core operating systems, network fundamentals, and file structure architectures. Foundational knowledge of digital evidence preservation and forensic methodologies. Demonstrated critical-thinking and problem-solving capacities. Preferred Qualifications: Experience setting up specialised lab environments for penetration testing or security evaluations. Familiarity with analysing log architectures within enterprise Microsoft environments.
