Finance and Accounting Intern

A well-established organisation is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance and Accounting Intern to join their structured Finance Department. This entry-level corporate opportunity is designed for a focused graduate looking to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical commercial financial administration. Working closely under the guidance of the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will gain hands-on exposure to comprehensive day-to-day accounting functions, internal control procedures, and financial reporting cycles. The core working hours for this role are 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday with an hour lunch break. Key Responsibilities: Transaction Capturing: Accurately input financial transactions into the organisation's core accounting system to maintain real-time ledgers. Accounts Payable Support: Process incoming supplier invoices, match delivery documentation, and assist with the end-to-end accounts payable cycle. Accounts Receivable Administration: Draft and issue debtor invoices while assisting with the proactive monitoring and following up of outstanding customer payments. Reconciliations: Perform daily and month-end bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving any variances or discrepancies efficiently. Cash Management: Assist with cashbook upkeep, petty cash administration, and the regular reconciliation of cash floats. Month-End Support: Contribute to month-end and year-end financial closing activities, including the preparation of basic journal entries and general ledger reconciliations. Reporting Assistance: Support senior finance team members with compiling data, financial schedules, and foundational reports. Compliance & Documentation: Review and verify supporting documentation for employee expense claims and corporate payments to ensure alignment with financial policies. Record Keeping: Maintain neat, accurate, and completely confidential physical and digital filing structures for all financial documentation. Requirements A completed Bachelor’s degree or relevant higher qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related commercial field. A solid baseline understanding of foundational accounting principles and corporate financial reporting frameworks. Excellent numerical capabilities alongside analytical problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills in professional English. Uncompromising professional integrity, maintaining strict confidentiality regarding sensitive company data. Meticulous attention to detail and a highly organised approach to handling repetitive financial tasks. Preferred Qualifications: Post-graduate qualification or progress towards a professional accounting designation. Prior exposure to or introductory practical experience within a commercial accounting environment.
