The Area Dean of Nursing promotes and supports the vision and mission of the College by providing strategic vision and operational leadership to all aspects of the School of Nursing programs.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Provide direction in planning and administration of the nursing program(s), including assessment, evaluation, development and revision of courses and overall curricula; facilitates faculty participation in planning, implementing and evaluating the curricula
- Establish and maintain advisory boards composed of clinical partners and other community leaders in accordance with College and School of Nursing Guidelines
- Ensure Faculty and Students have access to program governance opportunities • Hold and document monthly faculty meetings following the Faculty Meeting Topics outlined in the School of Nursing Program Performance Report (PPR)
- Prepare the program(s) budget according to College and School of Nursing guidelines with input from the Faculty • Ensure compliance with College and School of Nursing policy and procedures
- Prepare reports, plans, and analyses to document and advance the activities and initiatives of the School of Nursing
- Maintain familiarity with regulatory and compliance bodies including Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
- Accurately track key academic metrics used to monitor performance of the School of Nursing
- Monitor student success including NCLEX pass rates, graduation rates, and graduate job placement rates
- Utilize of the systematic plan of evaluation used to guide and inform program decision-making and ensure the achievement of the student learning outcomes
- Establish performance standards for self that support the overall strategic plan and vision of the School of Nursing, campus/region, and organization as a whole, and holds self accountable for achieving results
- Ensure full- and part-time faculty meet or exceed State Board of Nursing requirements for faculty and evidence is maintained according to College and School of Nursing Guidelines
- Develop long-range staffing plans to include new hires and adequate support staff that are aligned with program delivery, enrollment, and market projections
- Monitor current faculty-to-student ratios to ensure faculty are sufficient to achieve student learning outcomes and program outcomes
- Responsible for the recruitment, selection, on-boarding and continuous evaluation of campus Dean of Nursing or Associate Dean of Nursing
- Provide direction and guidance to nursing Dean, Associate Dean, faculty and staff, including:
o Orientation and on-boarding
o Organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
o Performance reviews, coaching, and goal-setting
o Professional development
- Initiate, sustain, and deliver School of Nursing curricula in accordance with programmatic accreditation standards and strategic planning goals
- Establish and maintain community relationship including clinical sites and ensures all clinical affiliation agreements are current and evidence is maintained
- Monitor and report student achievement of end-of-program student learning outcomes through meaningful use of the School of Nursing Program Performance Report
- Facilitate faculty involvement into curriculum development by ensuring quarterly completion and submission of the Quarterly Course Report and participation in Course Led calls
- Ensure all students receive policies and policy revisions according to College and School of Nursing guidelines • Utilize the College Academic Appeal and Grievance Process as outlined in the College Catalog
- Maintain responsibility for all fiscal, physical, and learning resource needs of the area and/or campus relating to the School of Nursing; plans for, requests, and disburses operational, capital, and other funds legally, responsibly, and fairly within given budget limitations
- Track and assess equipment and supply expenses throughout the year; delegates and holds staff accountable for the efficient use of resources (Ex: ATI and Simulation)
- Collaborate with admissions to facilitate and forecast student enrollment; updates and maintains course sequencing; sequences course across the system to maximize clinical faculty
As the Area Dean for their campuses, this role reports to the AVP Nursing Instruction and Operations with an indirect reporting relationship with the Campus Executive Director. This role leads a team of campus nursing leaders and faculty. This role works collaboratively with nursing stakeholders across the University, including the AVP, Nursing Curriculum and Online Programming, Provost, and Academic Affairs, and others.
Requirements
~1 min read- A Doctorate Degree in Nursing is highly preferred. Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN/MAN) from an accredited institution is required
- Current unencumbered registered nurse licensure
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience required as a faculty member in a professional nursing education program and/or higher education administration
- Minimum of 3+ years of management experience within the nursing field
- Minimum of 2+ years full-time or equivalent direct care experience as a practicing nurse
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point and/or Prezi
- Demonstrated track-record of organizational/team/individual development
- Proven ability to manage day-to-day business operations with discipline and a keen focus on details and the comprehension thereof
