Rasmussen University is seeking a detail-oriented, student-focused Writing Lab Consultant to support the academic success of our diverse student population. This part-time remote adjunct position consists of 20 hours per week and involves reviewing student writing submissions by providing timely, constructive, and engaging feedback to help students improve their writing, critical thinking, and academic integrity; committing to a flexible weekly schedule of 1:1 synchronous writing consultation support for Graduate-level students; and supporting other duties within the Writing Lab.

Responsibilities

- →Provide clear, encouraging, and actionable written feedback on grammar, organization, thesis development, APA formatting, content clarity, and other related writing aspects.
- →Guide students toward stronger academic writing skills while maintaining a supportive and non-evaluative tone.
- →Use provided rubrics and feedback models to ensure consistency in responses.
- →Work directly with the Writing Lab Manager to align expectations, best practices, and quality standards for student feedback.
- →Collaborate with Writing Lab team members and participate in ongoing training and quality assurance processes.
- →Meet turnaround times for paper reviews, typically within 24-48 hours of submission.
- →Maintain accurate records of reviewed submissions and follow institutional protocols for communication.
- →Commit to a flexible weekly schedule of 1:1 synchronous writing consultation support for Graduate-level students.
- →Perform other duties as assigned.
The Writing Lab Consultant reports directly to the Writing Lab Manager. This is a non-supervisory role, though the Writing Lab Consultant works collaboratively with full-time and part-time Work Study staff in Library and Learning Services to ensure the quality of writing instruction across departmental modalities.
Requirements
~1 min read- Master’s degree in English, Composition, Education, or related field
- Demonstrated proficiency in academic writing and APA formatting (7th edition)
- Excellent written communication and editing skills
- Ability to deliver constructive feedback in a student-centered and respectful tone
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills
- Proficiency working in a fully remote environment
- Comfortable conducting 1:1 synchronous Graduate-level writing consultation sessions using video conferencing platforms (e.g. MS Teams).
- Experience with online learning platforms and document review tools (e.g., MS Word with Track Changes
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and
- Prior experience working in a writing center or tutoring environment
- Experience with diverse student populations, including adult learners and ESL students
- Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, D2L)
- Knowledge of other citation styles (e.g., MLA, Chicago, Bluebook) a plus
