Cloud Optimization - FinOps Consultant
Quick Summary
RAVL helps technologists accelerate their careers. At RAVL, we connect strategy with execution, care deeply about the people we work with, and measure success by the lasting impact we leave behind.
As a FinOps Consultant at RAVL, you will design, build, and deliver cloud cost management, automation, and governance solutions that enable clients to operate secure, scalable, and economically optimized cloud platforms. You will thrive in environments of ambiguity, applying a delivery-first, get-shit-done mentality to make cost transparency, optimization impact, and automation outcomes visible and measurable.
Success at RAVL means combining strong engineering fundamentals with financial accountability, creativity in automation design, and the ability to influence engineering, operations, and finance stakeholders as a trusted outsider in complex client environments.
- Design and deliver cloud cost automation services, reporting pipelines, and governance workflows using Python, SQL, and cloud-native tooling.
- Architect and implement cost analytics pipelines for scale, resilience, auditability, and security.
- Integrate with third-party APIs (ticketing systems, workflow platforms, cloud billing APIs) to automate cost allocation, optimization actions, and governance processes.
- Build and maintain backend services and automation scripts for operational reporting, anomaly detection, and cost optimization tracking.
- Develop and optimize relational database schemas and queries for cost and usage data.
- Apply secure coding practices, secrets management, RBAC controls, and compliance-aware automation.
- Package, deploy, and support production automation workloads on Linux environments.
- Use CLI-based cloud tooling (aws, az, gcloud) and JSON data processing to extract, transform, and operationalize billing and usage data.
- Demonstrate a bias for action: ship incremental improvements, iterate rapidly, and make financial impact visible.
- At higher levels: mentor engineers, define FinOps governance models, influence cloud strategy, and shape enterprise cost optimization roadmaps.
- Strong programming skills in Python for backend services and automation.
- Solid SQL expertise with hands-on relational database design and performance tuning.
- Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and automation scripts for operational and financial reporting.
- Experience integrating with third-party APIs (cloud billing APIs, ticketing/workflow systems).
- Proficiency with Azure, AWS, and GCP and core infrastructure services.
- Strong understanding of cloud cost optimization strategies, FinOps practices, and governance workflows.
- Scripting expertise in Bash and/or PowerShell.
- Familiarity with CLI-based cloud tooling (aws, gcloud, az) and JSON data processing.
- Knowledge of secure configuration, IAM, encryption, RBAC, and secrets management practices.
- Experience deploying and operating production workloads in Linux environments.
- Strong troubleshooting, monitoring, and incident response skills in distributed cloud systems.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and finance stakeholders.
- Clear written communication and documentation skills for runbooks, financial process handoffs, and operational playbooks.
- Delivery-first and outcome-oriented (get-shit-done mentality).
- Creative and open to new approaches in cost optimization and automation.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and creating financial clarity from complex cloud usage data.
- Influential presence: able to shape direction as a trusted outsider in client environments.
- Operates as a high-performing remote consultant, ensuring work is visible, transparent, and uplifting to peers.
- Demonstrates RAVL’s higher performance bar: curiosity, delivery excellence, emotional awareness, and adaptability.
