The Accounting and Finance team plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of all financial transactions of the club.  Responsibilities extend to payroll, treasury, tax and compliance, risk management, and MLB reporting requirements.  In addition, the department is dedicated to working with all business and department leaders on financial reporting and controls, setting strategies through budgeting and forecasting, analyzing key operating indicators and trends, and ensuring proper oversight of the club’s financial resources.

The Staff Accountant is a unique and challenging role with an extensive level of responsibility across FSG Boston, including the baseball club, Red Sox Foundation, and real estate entities.  This position leads all account receivable functions and supports invoice processing and revenue recognition across these entities.  Additional responsibilities will include supporting month-end close cycles and reviewing and preparing financial statements.  This role’s multitude of responsibilities will require a strong commitment to providing outstanding customer service in all areas.

The base salary range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000 based on relevant experience. Additionally, this position qualifies for annual incentive pay along with our comprehensive benefits package.  

  • Process all monthly invoicing requirements for contracts and revenue recognition across the three distinct entities while taking ownership of all ad hoc invoicing needs for off cycle billings and billbacks for shared services.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and collection activity to ensure compliance with billing terms and conduct monthly reviews of outstanding balances with department leaders.
  • Partner with customers and internal departments to resolve billing discrepancies and collection issues.
  • Manage and resolve all inter-company transactions within FSG Boston and other related parties.
  • Assist with cash reconciliations and ensure proper coding of all cash receipts.  
  • Prepare general ledger entries for month-end close for all non-profit entities within the overall Red Sox Foundation.  
  • Develop and maintain reconciliations for balance sheet accounts used for internal and external audits, and research significant variances and analyze trends. 
  • Process, record, and track all event, fundraising, and grant donations for both past and future commitments.
  • Help track and coordinate grant giving, including maintaining records, monitoring disbursements, and assisting with basic reporting.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and required financial and legal filings for non-profit entities.
  • Assist with the audit fieldwork by creating support and providing analysis as required.
  • Create supporting schedules for all assurance engagements and tax filings.
  • Crosstrain with other roles within accounting area for ability to assist in all responsibilities.
  • Expand process documentation, accounting policies, and workflows with a critical eye for continuous improvement.   
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • Public accounting experience and/or 1-2 years of related experience in a mid-to-large corporate environment preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, etc.), with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.  
  • Familiarity with Oracle NetSuite accounting software and Salesforce is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent telephone, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and high accuracy level.
  • Highly motivated to continuously learn and improve accounting and system processes.
