Joining us as an Agriculture Manager at Sainsbury's offers a unique and impactful opportunity to shape our sustainable sourcing practises. As a key player in our organisation, you will have the chance to drive positive change in animal welfare, environmental sustainability, commercial viability, and product quality. With a focus on building strong relationships with our trusted farming partners and external stakeholders, you will help align our initiatives with broader industry goals. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will play a crucial role in embedding agriculture priorities within category planning and joint business plans, driving meaningful change throughout our organisation. This role offers a platform to make a real difference and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for our agricultural supply chains.
What you'll do
As an Agriculture Manager, you'll work collaboratively across the business and our value chains to implement Sainsbury's Agriculture Strategy for your your areas of work. This includes sourcing policy, delivery of our Plan for Better sustainability commitments, innovation, supply chain resilience and security of supply, as well as our commercial Win In Food strategy. To achieve this, you'll engage and influence the Sainsburys commercial and technical teams, our supplier partners & farmers as well as other external bodies.
Who you are
As an Agriculture Manager at Sainsbury's, you are an experienced professional with a deep understanding of sustainable sourcing practises in the agricultural industry. With your background in agriculture and ideally a relevant degree, you bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help shape the company's strategies and initiatives. Your exceptional communication skills allow you to effectively engage and manage relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, including our trusted farming partners, industry organisations, and regulatory bodies. Your collaborative approach and ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams ensure the successful implementation of sustainable agricultural practises throughout our supply chains. By championing animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and product quality, you play a pivotal role in driving meaningful change and shaping the future of agriculture at Sainsbury's.
Essential Criteria:
- Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or a related subject, or demonstrable experience in the agricultural industry, evidencing technical knowledge and sector understanding
- Demonstrable experience within the agricultural sector, ideally including livestock, with a track record of delivering measurable outcomes
- Commercial awareness and understanding of agricultural supply chains, with the ability to apply this knowledge to inform decision‑making
- Strong knowledge of the UK agriculture sector, including market dynamics and industry considerations
- Willingness and ability to travel to supplier locations, including holding a valid UK driving licence.
