OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Senior Property Accountant to join our dynamic and collaborate team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager and Director of Finance and Accounting, the Senior Property Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting and financial reporting of a designated property portfolio. In addition, this role will include providing coaching, mentorship and guidance to Junior Property Accountants.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Full-cycle accounting for a multi-property portfolio, including:
- Daily review and posting of transactions in Yardi.
- Monthly financial reporting and analysis, including bank reconciliations, AR/AP review, budget analysis, and GST filings.
- Year-end reporting and analysis, including tenant recovery and operating cost reconciliations, and working paper preparation for year-end financial statements.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting for the property portfolio, including:
- Preparation of annual budget.
- Monthly and periodic analysis.
- Review and setup of commercial and residential leases, including:
- Understanding the terms and conditions of the leases.
- Setup of lease details in Yardi software.
- Providing tenant rent reports and other correspondence.
- Co-ordinate with Property Managers on an ongoing basis, regarding financial and tenant matters.
- Co-ordinate with leasing and other departments on accounting related matters.
- Provide assistance, coaching and mentorship to other members of the finance team.
- Assist Accounting Manager and Director of Accounting and Finance with other projects as required.
REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS)
- Diploma or degree in Accounting/Finance or related field
- Minimum 5 years of full-cycle accounting experience within Commercial Real Estate and/or Property Management
- Prior experience with reviewing and understanding of commercial leases is an asset
- Prior experience with Yardi software is an asset
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Well organized and able to effectively work on multiple priorities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong collaborative skills and works as a team-player
