Creating new games is a part of Rovio DNA and we are now looking for a Lead Game Developer to add to our brand new action title, Smash Ball, a high-speed, PvP sports game. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to shape and define the technical direction of our game and foster a culture of continuous improvement. You will be responsible for helping, guiding and managing the work of other developers on the team, while daily contributing to the codebase.

Our small team is agile, so be prepared to adapt when plans change and support the team in balancing speed and innovation with best practices in coding that ensure stability and future scalability.

In Spain, we are able to provide work permit sponsorship if needed, but are not open to relocate to Spain at the moment.

  • Defining the technical direction of our project and mentoring a team of game developers, providing technical guidance and support, while actively contributing to our code base on the daily basis.
  • Overseeing the full development lifecycle of the game, from ideation to launch and beyond, designing, implementing, and optimizing game mechanics, ensuring the best player experience.
  • Leading the development of the more complex gameplay mechanics, systems and custom tools.
  • Balancing rapid prototyping and experimentation with a passion for long-term code quality, scalability, and performance.
  • Acting as an inspiration and a manager for a small team of developers in the studio.
  • Collaborating closely with Product Managers, Game Artists, and Marketing teams to create engaging gameplay experiences.
  • Constantly refining the code quality, optimizing game performance and ensuring high-quality, smooth experience across devices, platforms, and network conditions.
  • Fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and knowledge sharing within the development team.
  • Strong programming skills, especially knowledge of Unity, C#
  • Working experience shipping live games, including a good understanding of game design and a feel for great user experience
  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills
  • Proficiency in debugging, profiling and performance optimisation
  • Strong knowledge of game architecture and technologies
  • Good knowledge of SOLID principles and software development practices
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills and experience in mentoring other developers
