Position Summary 

East Bay School Year Climate Crew

A crew of 6 high school aged members, 2 senior crew members (18+) and 2 young adult Field Leaders will complete conservation projects around the East Bay Area. All projects conducted outdoors. Crews work every other Saturday starting from October 17th, 2026 through May 15th, 2027. An overnight 2 night camping trip is scheduled for the springtime. The crews main goal for the school year season is to gain conservation work skills through hands on experiences and complete projects designed to increase climate resiliency and access to green spaces in their communities.

Location 

East SF Bay Area, CA

• This position is primarily in an urban setting where emergency services, public transportation, and cell phone reception are available within 30 minutes . Interactions with members of the public are regular and frequent.
• This position may conduct work in an urban setting where emergency services, public transportation, and cell phone reception are readily accessible. Interactions with members of the public are regular and frequent.
• This position may conduct work in a front country setting where emergency services are accessible, but may be delayed by 1-2 hours. Access to public transportation at work site is limited or not possible. Cell phone reception is limited, spotty, or not available.

 

Schedule 

October 17, 2026 - May 15, 2027

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

Crew members will mainly be working on completing conservation work projects with our local worksite partners. Other crew duties and activities include obtaining First Aid/CPR certification, camping and practical outdoor skills, tool use skills and maintenance, urban agriculture basics, engaging in community outreach & climate change educational activities, and assisting local volunteer events. A program outcome goal is for crew members to increase their local ecological knowledge, and through their work find meaningful connection with nature to become lifelong stewards and advocates of our shared natural resources.

 

Marginal Duties 

• Responsible for completing bi-weekly timecards
• Complete a cumulative end-of-season multimedia project together as a crew to present at graduation
• Complete post-season surveys and provide camping feedback

 

Required Qualifications 

• Be a current High School Student
• Must be available for all program dates, barring emergencies
• Possess the current ability to perform manual, physical labor in the outdoors for up to 8 hours per day, rain or shine barring inclement weather. This includes lifting heavy materials, digging with shovels and using other hand tools, hiking, planting trees/native plants, weeding, and some light construction
• Have a team-oriented mindset and a desire to work and learn outdoors
• Must have the ability to legally work in the USA

 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience or interest in conservation work or related environments/skills

8 per week

Compensation  

$18.00 per hour paid bi-weekly

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
