Scope has an exciting and unique opportunity for a Speech Pathologist to work within our Communication and Inclusion Resource Centre. The Communication and Inclusion Resource Centre (CIRC) is a nationally recognised leader in capacity building for people with communication disability and/or low literacy, operating for 20+ years. We enrich lives by creating supportive, connected and inclusive communities, where everyone has a voice and is heard. CIRC employs a diverse, multidisciplinary team including people with disability, speech pathologists, access consultants, educators, and project managers.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Develop materials and information on AAC, Accessible Information and Communication Access on a variety of platforms if required
- Implementing a range of CIRC projects and services including non-electronic communication aids, Key Word Sign (KWS) activities, Accessible Information, Communication Access services, training and advice in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
- Deliver services to a range of customers and stakeholders nationally to improve the access and inclusion of people with communication access needs
- Deliver quality services to external customers in adherence to the quoted amount/hours allocated
- Provide expert advice and quality services across education and capacity building services &/or communication products and resources services
- Demonstrated knowledge of comprehensive Augmentative & Alternative (AAC) systems and multi-modal communication.
- A demonstrated ability in providing training to a range of communication partners, both in person and online
- An understanding and sensitivity to the rights and dignity of people with disabilities in line with current legislation
- Works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including stakeholders with diverse communication preferences.
- Ability to work positively and creatively in a changing environment that is experiencing rapid growth.
- Proven ability to assume responsibility and be self-directed and operate independently but also to take instruction
- Develops the skills and confidence of others; role modelling self-reflection and a commitment to learning and growth.
- Role models critical thinking, resilience, courage and flexibility in seeing initiatives through to completion.
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of speech pathology services within the disability, human services or community sector
- Experience in working and/or supporting people with disabilities and communication access requirements
- Familiarity with and experience supporting individuals to access a range of AAC tools (non-electronic and electronic)
- Current certified practising speech pathologist membership with Speech Pathology Australia
- A recognised qualification in Speech Pathology with at least four years clinical experience with children or adults in a range of models of service provision, particularly with people with complex communication needs.
- Working in a disability service provider organisation, you will also require:
- An NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current Working with Children check
- If you have lived or worked for a continuous period of 12 months or more in another country within the last 10 years, a certified International Police Check from that country or countries will also be required
- Must satisfy all visa requirements for working in Australia.
- Driver’s license (required for all roles where there is a requirement to travel to deliver services)
