STUDENT - Mechanic Assistant

Location: Finch Patrol - 70 Front Street, Finch, ON

Term: July to September 2026 
Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour 
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Some overtime may be required.

Summary:

Reporting to the Fleet Supervisor, the student will assist with the repair and maintenance of trucks, tractors, and related equipment used by County personnel. Additional responsibilities will include general upkeep of County shop facilities, such as sweeping, painting, and other housekeeping tasks. The role may also involve assisting with the scheduling, delivery, and collection of vehicles and parts at various County locations. In-house duties will include clerical and administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications:

The candidate must:

• be a student who is enrolled in full-time secondary or post-secondary studies in the fall;
• possess a valid Class G2 Ontario driver’s licence; and
• possess good interpersonal skills and pay special attention to safety and detail.
  
  

Experience in an Automotive or Agricultural Mechanics field of study would be an asset.

Successful applicants will be required to provide a driver’s abstract indicating a clean driving record, prior to commencement.

Students will receive in-depth Health & Safety training provided by SDG County prior to beginning work.

Note: Summer Students are responsible for supplying their own C.S.A. approved work boots, with steel toes and shanks.
