Water Quality Scientist (Field based)

Reporting to our Senior Water Quality Scientist, you will collect and report on observational data pertinent to the management of water quality, environment and process improvement for assets owned or operated by Seqwater.
This is a field-based role where you will drive around to our stunning locations, work outdoors and make a great contribution to the SEQ community.
This role is responsible for
- Undertaking scientific sampling in accordance with procedures, standardised instructions and task specific guidelines as directed, ensuring the integrity of samples and taking all required measures to ensure accuracy and repeatability of results can be assured.
- Undertaking scientific field and laboratory analysis with a high level of accuracy and repeatability in accordance with procedures, standardised instructions and task specific guidelines as directed.
- Applying scientific knowledge gained through tertiary studies and/or previous work experience to the recording of observations pertinent to the management of environmental and water quality values at Seqwater.
- Assisting in the continuous improvement of the Scientific Services team through development and application of advanced scientific techniques learnt in tertiary studies, professional development activities and/or work experience.
Appointment to this role is subject to the provision of a national police check and may be subject to other medical/character requirements. Please note that people with criminal records are not automatically deemed ineligible. Each application will be considered on its merits.
This position will be based at Mt Crosby, and the successful appointee will be working to a fortnightly rotating roster, working 9.5 hours a day, with a 38-hour week and some on-call work (shift allowances apply).
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Tertiary Qualification in a relevant science discipline; or equivalent specialised qualifications suited to the role
- Unrestricted C class driver’s license; Recreation marine driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one).
- The ability to meet the physical requirements, such as lifting up-to 15kgs, kneeling and walking through different terrain.
- Knowledge of the ability to easily acquire knowledge of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG) and Australian and New Zealand Guidelines Fresh and Marine Water Quality, the DES Monitoring and Sampling Manual 2018 and the Water Quality and Environmental regulatory environment (desirable).
- Coxswains accreditation – Grade 3 or above (desirable).
