About the Role
As a Game Logic Server Developer, you will play a key role in bringing industry-leading online slot games to life, taking game concepts and design specifications and building them into fully working games on a Java code base. You will own the server-side game logic from the first commit through to release and take responsibility for delivering a client-ready final product.
You will work closely with Game Mathematicians to build game mechanics and prepare games for balancing, as well as collaborating with Client Developers, Designers, QA Engineers, and Producers to ensure the implementation aligns with the client, artwork, and intended player experience.
Alongside developing new games, you will spend a meaningful amount of time improving, refactoring, and modernising the platform, helping maintain a healthy, consistent, and maintainable code base.
Take a game concept or design specification and build it into a fully working game on the Java code base, owning the server-side game logic from first commit through to release.
Implement core game mechanics, reel logic, feature triggers, and bonus flows so they behave exactly as the design intends.
Build game mechanics in a clean, well-structured way and pass the game to Game Mathematicians for balancing.
Act as the owner of the final product, coordinating the work needed to take a game from concept to a released, client-ready title.
Handle the setup and administrative work around each game so it can be integrated with the client, including configuration, metadata, and the interfaces the client relies on.
Collaborate closely with Game Mathematicians throughout the project, handing over a solid, well-structured game for balancing and working together to resolve logic or behavioural issues.
Work alongside Client Developers, Designers, QA Engineers, and Producers to ensure the server implementation lines up with the client, the art, and the intended player experience.
Integrate with the backend platform, manage game state, and ensure secure, reliable handling of game rounds and transactions.
Diagnose and resolve logic, behavioural, or integration issues raised during development, QA, or from live production environments.
Write clean, maintainable, well-structured code and help keep the code base healthy, consistent, and easy to work in.
Play an active part in the ongoing improvement of the code base through refactoring, paying down technical debt, and helping shape better patterns, tooling, and development practices as the platform evolves.
A strong grounding in software development and back-end engineering, whether gained through iGaming, video games, or elsewhere.
Strong Java skills, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software architecture.
Confidence designing and structuring game logic in a way that is clean, maintainable, configurable, and easy for others to build on.
A real commitment to code quality and maintainability, with an appetite for the ongoing work of refactoring and improving an evolving code base.
Good mathematical and logical reasoning, sufficient to implement game mechanics accurately and collaborate effectively with mathematicians on how a game is balanced.
Proficiency with software design patterns and their application to game or systems development.
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to own a project end-to-end and take responsibility for the quality of the final product.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
Proficiency with Git, distributed version control, and branching strategies.
Experience working in an Agile Scrum environment.
Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira or ClickUp.
An understanding of slot mechanics and iGaming regulatory considerations.
