Smart State Inc. is expanding! We’re looking for a Team Lead, HTML/Markup Developer to join our New Jersey‑based Product & R&D team. If you love mentoring developers, turning designs into performant, responsive layouts, and partnering with designers and engineers, this role is a great opportunity to make a visible impact across our Digital Gaming and Fintech platforms.
📍📍 Location: Fort Lee, New Jersey (100% On-site)
⏰ Work Mode: Full-time, office-based (Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available)
The Role 🛠️
As a Team Lead, HTML/Markup Developer, you’ll manage and grow a team of markup engineers while remaining hands-on with high‑quality, fast, and adaptive user interface layouts for our web applications. You’ll define standards, coordinate workloads, and ensure delivery quality, while collaborating with product, design, and engineering leaders to align on priorities and outcomes. You’ll also foster a transparent, supportive team culture where challenges, learnings, and successes are openly shared.
What You’ll Do 🚀
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of HTML/Markup developers.
- Develop project requirements and work schedules, and drive the team toward daily, weekly, and monthly goals.
- Hire and train technical personnel as the team grows.
- Ensure the team delivers efficient, fast, and adaptive layouts for web applications.
- Collaborate closely with developers, designers, and management to ensure projects meet quality and UI/UX standards.
- Create an environment where team members can ask questions, raise concerns, and propose improvements.
- Collaborate with the team to identify and fix technical problems and optimize existing applications.
What We’re Looking For 🎯
- 5+ years of professional experience as an HTML coder / markup developer and at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Excellent knowledge of HTML and CSS, plus basic knowledge of JavaScript.
- Good understanding of UI/UX design principles and cross‑browser layout.
- Strong knowledge of CSS/JS animation.
- Experience working with CSS pre‑processors such as Sass or Less.
- Experience with Git and modern version control workflows.
- Solid understanding of web application performance optimization.
- Hands‑on experience with Figma, Sketch, or Photoshop for working with design assets.
Nice to Have ⭐
- Experience with Angular and TypeScript.
- Familiarity with front‑end build tools (e.g., Gulp, Webpack).
- Experience with CSS frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, Tailwind).
- Experience working with template engines (Pug, Handlebars, etc.).
- Experience with Canvas API, WebGL, ThreeJS, or GSAP for advanced visuals and animations.
