JOB PURPOSE

 

The Student Research Assistant role exists to support the development of Indigenous entrepreneurship and business strategy initiatives at Six Nations Polytechnic by providing research, coordination, and community engagement support. The position contributes to key project outcomes by generating evidence-informed insights, supporting stakeholder engagement, and assisting in the development of program and strategy inputs. The key result is the timely production of organized, accurate, and actionable information that enables effective planning, decision-making, and implementation of the initiative. 

 

The Student Research Assistant is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).  


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Research and Writing  20% 

  • Conduct and compile research as directed to develop Indigenous Learner pathways, Indigenous learner supports and Indigenous applied research; Prepare reports as required.
  • Other related duties, as required.

 

General Administration  10% 

 

  • Maintain filing systems, physical and electronic, ensuring timely filing of materials 
  • Manage schedules, portfolios  
  • Other related duties, as required. 

 

Project Collaboration and Implementation  15% 

 

  • The Student Research Assistant will provide direct, structured support to the Dean by advancing the research, coordination, and engagement activities required to move the project forward within a defined and compressed timeline.   
  • Support the development of National strategy  
  • Other related duties, as required. 

 

Community Engagement  55% 

 

  • Support strategies and assisting with the preparation of community education and public awareness workshops related to the initiatives and activities of the National strategy 
  • Participate in research ethics and other advisory committees, as needed; and 
  • Other related duties, as required. 


EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE 

 

Completion of high school. Must be registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year. 

 

EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE 

 

Up to and including 1 year of experience; In a similar capacity

 

Criminal Record Check 

The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic, and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic.
