The Junior School (Primary) Visual Arts & STEM Teacher designs and leads dynamic learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving through technology, design thinking, and inquiry-based STEM education. This role supports students from Kindergarten to Grade 5 and collaborates closely with faculty, families, and community partners to advance the school’s vision for innovative and future-ready learning. Reporting to the Junior School Principal or designate, the Junior School Visual Arts & STEM Teacher will commence on August 27, 2026.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Develop and implement engaging, inquiry-based Visual Arts and STEM learning experiences aligned with the PYP framework;
- Deliver dynamic Visual Arts instruction using a variety of media, techniques, and contemporary practices, including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and digital art;
- Encourage creativity, artistic confidence, and self-expression while helping students thoughtfully refine their artistic and design skills;
- Integrate technology and digital tools such as coding platforms, robotics, maker-space materials, and digital design tools to enhance learning and innovation;
- Promote intercultural understanding through the exploration of diverse artists, cultures, traditions, and global perspectives;
- Foster collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and reflection through hands-on inquiry and design thinking projects;
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate Visual Arts, STEM, and ADST concepts into PYP Units of Inquiry and transdisciplinary learning experiences;
- Organize and lead an annual school-wide Innovation Week celebrating creativity, artistic expression, STEM exploration, and collaborative problem-solving;
- Display student artwork throughout the school and contribute to community initiatives, including the annual gala and school events;
- Design and implement authentic formative and summative assessments across Visual Arts, STEM, and ADST learning outcomes;
- Use digital portfolios, including Toddle, to document and communicate student learning through photos, videos, reflections, and exhibitions;
- Provide timely feedback, prepare report comments, conduct conferences, and maintain ongoing communication with families;
- Maintain safe, organized, and engaging learning environments across both a dedicated Visual Arts studio and a separate STEM studio, each designed to support creativity, innovation, and hands-on exploration;
- Manage the organization, inventory, maintenance, and replenishment of all Junior School art and STEM materials, equipment, and resources within both studios, ensuring spaces remain accessible, age-appropriate, and aligned with program needs;
- Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues while contributing actively to school life and professional learning;
- Contribute to the school’s co-curricular and/or athletic programs for two out of three terms and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
- BC Ministry of Education Certificate of Qualification
- Valid First-Aid certificate.
Salary
- Southpointe's teacher salary grid is at 6% above the Delta public school salary grid at all levels of the grid;
- The annual salary for a full-time teaching position at Southpointe Academy during the 2026-2027 school year ranges from $72,588 to $123,162 based on placement on the approved teacher salary grid;
- Placement on the approved teacher salary grid is based on level of qualifications and duration of full-time teaching experience.
