POSITION SUMMARY:

The Spokane Tribal Energy Manager Trainee will be responsible for managing the operations of the Energy projects on behalf of the Spokane Tribe, while gaining knowledge, certificates, skill, and expertise through on-the-job training and experience. This position requires an understanding of energy systems, utility management, and a commitment to promoting sustainable and efficient energy practices within the tribal community.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPOSIBILITIES:

  • Working with tribal leadership and the Energy Team to develop and implement long-term plans for the tribe’s energy needs. Ensuring that the needs are met through sustainable practices.
  • Implement the Spokane Tribe Strategic Energy & Climate Adaptation Plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and tribal regulations governing energy utilities. Stay updated on regulatory changes and adapt operational procedures accordingly.
  • Assist in the development and gain experience in managing the budget for Energy Projects, ensuring financial sustainability and cost-effective operations. Help monitor expenses, revenue, and financial performance of utility.
  • Learn how to manage, provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Assist in the collaboration with Energy Projects task team, Tribal Business Council, community members, and stakeholders to ensure their energy needs and concerns are addressed. Educate the community about energy conservation and promote sustainable energy practices.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations, vendors, and contractors to support the operations of Energy Projects.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in the energy sector. Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve the efficiency and reliability of energy services.
  • Prepare regular reports on the operational and financial performance of Energy Projects. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to energy production, consumption, and regulatory compliance.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in energy/utility management, with a background in power generation, distribution, and regulatory compliance. Experience working with tribal communities is highly desirable.
  • Experience in writing, production, and technical editing skills.
  • Strong, reliable analytical skills and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with evolving project requirements and priorities.
  • Individual must have a moderate level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations professionally. This position requires constant interaction with Tribal leaders, public officials, and non-tribal professional organizations.
  • Travel on and off the Spokane Indian Reservation is required.
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver's License.
