Responsibilities
~1 min readReporting to the Head of the Modern and Classical Languages Department and the Assistant Head of School/Dean of Faculty, the Classics Teacher serves as a key member of the St. Mark’s community.
You will:
- →Teach introductory through advanced levels of Latin and/or Greek to students in grades 9 through 12
- →Design engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support a diverse community of learners
- →Foster students’ growth as readers, writers, thinkers, and communicators through meaningful feedback and active classroom engagement
- →Collaborate with department colleagues on curriculum development, course design, and innovative teaching practices
- →Serve as an advisor and mentor, supporting students academically and personally throughout their St. Mark’s experience
- →Engage fully in community life: coaching two seasons of co-curriculars, participating in weekend activities and events, and more
- →Working thoughtfully with students and colleagues in ways that strengthen the inclusive and relational culture of the School
The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate strong content knowledge in Latin, Greek, and classical studies
- Bring experience teaching classics at the secondary school level and a commitment to student-centered pedagogy
- Exhibit the ability to teach inclusively and connect effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and learning profiles
- Model creativity, flexibility, and intellectual curiosity in the classroom
- Collaborate enthusiastically with colleagues and contribute meaningfully to all aspects of school life
- Convey warmth, empathy, and high expectations in working with adolescents
- Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Show comfort using educational technology and digital tools to support teaching and learning
Requirements

- Minimum of two years of secondary school teaching experience preferred
- Advanced degree and boarding school experience preferred

$40,000–$80,000, commensurate with experience.
