The Senior Merchandise Sourcing Manager (SMSM) is responsible for developing and delivering global sourcing strategies across assigned hardgoods and softgoods categories. This role leads supplier selection, commercial negotiations, supplier performance management, capacity planning, cost optimization, supplier innovation, new product commercialization, sustainability initiatives, and risk mitigation while ensuring alignment with quality, service, cost, regulatory requirements, and business growth objectives.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Develop and complete category sourcing strategies aligned with business growth, innovation, quality, cost, and risk objectives.
- Identify, evaluate, qualify, and onboard new suppliers and manufacturing partners globally.
- Develop supplier capability matrices and business allocation strategies.
- Lead supplier segmentation, performance reviews, and executive business reviews.
- Monitor supplier financial health, geopolitical risks, and business continuity plans.
- Drive supplier diversification and sourcing footprint optimization initiatives.
- Resolve advanced supplier and production issues.
- Partner with Product Development, Engineering, Quality, and Packaging teams throughout the stage-gate process.
- Lead supplier engagement during concept, prototype, validation, and commercialization phases.
- Drive Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM), Design-for-Cost (DFC), and Value Engineering initiatives.
- Ensure supplier readiness for successful product launches.
- Develop and maintain should-cost models and category pricing frameworks.
- Lead annual price negotiations and contract renewals.
- Drive productivity, VA/VE, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Monitor commodity, tariff, logistics, and inflation impacts.
- Develop supplier scorecards and dashboards tracking critical metrics.
- Track performance across quality, delivery, cost, innovation, sustainability, and service.
- Collaborate with Quality and Compliance teams to advance corrective actions and ongoing improvement.
- Collaborate with Planning teams to align supplier capacity with forecasted demand.
- Support inventory optimization, lead-time reduction, and supply continuity.
- Develop risk mitigation and contingency plans.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, product safety, labor, environmental, and ethical sourcing requirements.
- Support ESG initiatives and sustainable material adoption.
- Lead supplier compliance assessments and audits.
- Identify new materials, technologies, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Facilitate supplier innovation workshops and strategic development programs.
- Guide efforts to standardize sourcing procedures and promote continuous advancement.
- Develop and maintain sourcing processes, oversight, and documentation.
- Leverage analytics and reporting tools to improve decision making.
- Excellent strategic sourcing, negotiation, and supplier management skills.
- Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with manufacturing and supply chains for both hardgoods and softgoods.
- Strong communication and collaborator management skills.
- Knowledge of supplier quality systems, ESG, compliance, and risk management.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Power BI, ERP systems, and sourcing analytics.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, or related field.
- 10+ years of sourcing, procurement, or supply chain experience.
- Experience leading global supplier networks across Asia, Americas, and EMEA.
- Professional certifications such as CPSM, CSCP, APICS, or Lean Six Sigma preferred.

The base pay range for this position is for a successful candidate within the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on multiple factors such as work location, job-related knowledge, skills, qualifications, and experience.
