Founded in 1976, Steelway is one of Canada’s largest manufacturers of steel building systems. We remain a family-owned and operated business dedicated to customized steel building solutions and employee-driven excellence.
The purpose of the Director of Shared Services is to elevate the performance, consistency, and experience of all Ardent companies by building and leading high-performing shared service functions that remove friction, create clarity, and enable every partner and operating team to reach their full potential.
In short, this new role exists to make it easier for our operating companies to perform at a high level.
Ardent provides the following shared services to the operating companies:
• H&S and Wellness
• IT
• Marketing
• Sales leadership
• Finance
• HR and Social
• Fleet and Property Management (in the future)
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Dependably demonstrates a relentless obsession with higher purpose, values alignment, focus, simplicity, and clarity.
- Shape, scrutinize and fiercely protect the culture to ensure every partner has an enriching experience.
- Acts as a service-oriented partner to operating companies, ensuring shared services are viewed as value-adding, responsive, and aligned to real business needs.
- Faithfully executes the business plan, operating within budget objectives.
- Leads, manages, and holds the shared service team accountable for achieving agreed-upon commitments.
- Integrates all major operating functions of the business. Ensures everyone is rowing together in the same direction. Models the way, always working toward the greater good of the business.
- Resolves issues effectively, seeing real problems, being comfortable with conflict, calling out the problems, and solving the problems in a practical and healthy manner. Ensures teams are healthy, functional, and cohesive.
- Ensures that there is an appropriate level of consistency in process, practices, and system across all Ardent companies.
- Manages the tension of Standardization vs. Flexibility across operating companies. Balances shared service efficiency with the need for operating company autonomy.
- Be the leader, or consult to the leader, in implementing initiatives that span all or most Ardent companies.
- Effectively collaborates with the Visionary and stays on the same page. Maintains a high level of mutual respect with the Visionary. Realizes the unique contributions and ideas that the Visionary has and possesses an ability to filter and translate those ideas into functional plans for the company.
- Confirms that all key messages are properly and consistently cascaded across the organization. Inherently ensures that everyone is in the know. Verifies that a high level of effective communication exists throughout the organization.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Senior leadership experience in a manufacturing and/or service environment.
- Degree in Business, Masters in Business Administration, or other professional designation is an asset.
