RCM Senior Technician (Zinc Concentrator)

Role Purpose
The RCM Senior Technician is responsible for driving and supporting reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) practices to improve equipment reliability, availability and lifecycle performance across the zinc concentrator.
The role focuses on failure elimination, maintenance strategy optimisation, condition monitoring integration and technical coaching. The position ensures that reliability practices are practical, data-driven and aligned to safety, statutory and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) Implementation
- Lead and facilitate RCM, FMECA and asset criticality assessments on plant equipment.
- Translate RCM outputs into practical maintenance strategies (PM, PdM or run-to-failure).
- Ensure strategies are correctly implemented within the CMMS and executed on site.
- Review and optimise maintenance strategies to eliminate failure consequences.
- Focus on critical plant areas including crushing, milling, flotation, filtration and materials handling.
Failure Analysis & Problem Solving
- Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) on high-impact and recurring failures.
- Analyse breakdown data, trends and failure modes across equipment.
- Identify and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Drive elimination of repeat failures and chronic equipment issues.
- Support reliability improvements linked to availability, MTBF and cost reduction.
Condition Monitoring & Asset Health
Support and interpret condition monitoring activities including:
- Vibration analysis
- Oil analysis
- Thermography
- Ultrasonic testing
- Identify early warning signs of failure and recommend intervention plans.
- Integrate condition monitoring findings into maintenance strategies.
- Support continuous improvement of asset health monitoring systems.
Maintenance Strategy & Task Optimisation
- Review PM task lists for effectiveness, frequency and relevance.
- Eliminate non-value-adding tasks and improve task quality.
- Standardise job plans and maintenance instructions.
- Support planners with technically sound job scopes and execution strategies.
- Ensure maintenance tasks align with reliability principles and OEM guidelines.
Safety, Health & Compliance
- Ensure reliability activities support compliance with MHSA and site standards.
- Identify reliability-related risks that could impact safety or operations.
- Participate in incident investigations involving equipment failure.
- Promote safe design, safe operation and disciplined maintenance practices.
Technical Leadership & Coaching
- Provide technical coaching and mentoring to technicians, artisans and planners.
- Support development of skills in failure analysis and reliability practices.
- Work closely with engineering, maintenance and operations teams.
- Promote a culture of reliability, accountability and continuous improvement.
CMMS & Data Quality
- Ensure accurate capture of failure codes, maintenance history and asset data.
- Support development of asset hierarchies, task lists and maintenance strategies.
- Improve data quality to enable effective reliability analysis and decision-making.
- Drive disciplined feedback and closure of work orders.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare reliability reports, failure trend analyses and dashboards.
- Track reliability KPIs and improvement initiatives.
- Support asset lifecycle management and CAPEX justification.
- Participate in reliability and engineering audits.
Operational Support
- Support troubleshooting complex equipment issues.
- Provide input into shutdown planning and execution from a reliability perspective.
- Assist in distinguishing between process, mechanical and operational failure drivers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Trade qualification (Mechanical or Electrical) or relevant Technical Diploma.
- Minimum 8–10 years' maintenance experience with 3–5 years in reliability or RCM roles.
- Strong hands-on experience in mining or heavy industrial environments.
- Good understanding of fixed plant equipment including crushers, mills, pumps and conveyors.
Desirable
- Formal training in RCM, RCFA or Reliability Engineering.
- Experience in zinc or base metal concentrators.
- Condition monitoring certification (vibration, oil analysis, etc.).
- Exposure to commissioning and plant ramp-up environments.
