Position Overview
The Portfolio Specialist supports the growth and servicing of StepStone Private Wealth's private markets platform by translating investment expertise into actionable insights for financial advisors, home offices, and internal stakeholders. The role sits within StepStone Private Wealth, which seeks to expand accessibility to the private markets for individual investors by creating and distributing investment solutiosns differentiated by industry-leading investment managers and investor-centric products. The Portfolio Specialist acts as a subject matter expert on private market evergreen funds, the competitive landscape, and the private market more broadly, while partnering closely with portfolio management, sales, fund accounting, and marketing teams to enhance client outcomes and support asset growth. This role requires a high-caliber professional who has significant technical depth in private markets and ‘40 Act evergreen funds, while also representing our platform with precision, credibility, and commercial judgement.
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as a technical resource for advisors, clients, and prospects regarding private market investments, portfolio construction, and fund-specific questions.
- Participate in client meetings, due diligence sessions, conferences, webinars, and educational events.
- Conduct prospect and client update calls regarding portfolio positioning, markets, and fund performance.
- Potential for travel alongside the sales team to support business development efforts and provide investment expertise.
- Develop fund commentary, market updates, board summaries, talking points, and educational materials.
- Produce quarterly and monthly updates for private wealth funds and strategies.
- Translate complex private market and evergreen fund concepts into clear, advisor-friendly messaging.
- Support creation of presentations, competitor analyses, and strategy comparisons.
- Monitor private market fund developments and industry trends.
- Assist with model portfolio proposals and portfolio construction discussions.
- Maintain competitive intelligence on evergreen fund offerings and industry peers.
- Support development and enhancement of portfolio analytics and allocation tools.
- Deliver educational presentations on private equity, private credit, infrastructure, and broader private market topics.
- Leverage StepStone's proprietary technology and data capabilities, including StepStone Private Market Intelligence (SPI), and conduct demos of SPI and StepStone’s competitive informational advantage.
- Educate advisors and internal teams on private market investing concepts and StepStone solutions.
- Partner with portfolio management, sales, marketing, and product teams to ensure consistent messaging and client communication.
- Act as a liaison between investment teams and distribution teams to help communicate portfolio strategy and market views.
- Support ad hoc strategic initiatives and special projects as needed.
The successful Portfolio Specialist will create and potentially deliver the following material, among other content:
- Quarterly fund commentaries
- Market update communications
- Client and prospect presentations
- Model portfolio allocations
- Monthly fund update materials
- Competitor and peer-fund analysis
- Board summaries
- Educational webinars and conference presentations
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA, CFA, or CAIA preferred.
- Series 7 and 63 required, or completion within 12 months from the start date.
- 2-5 years of relevant private markets, alternatives, or financial services experience.
- Experience supporting asset raise and client-servicing initiatives within wealth management or alternative investments.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of private equity, private credit, infrastructure, real estate, and evergreen fund structures.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate complex investment topics to financial advisors and investors.
- Strong analytical, writing, and relationship-management capabilities.
- Ability to create and deliver quarterly fund commentaries, monthly fund update materials, market update communications, competitor and peer-fund analyses, client and prospect presentations, board summaries, model portfolio allocations, educational webinars, and conference presentations.
