Childcare Support Staff – Kitchen & Afterschool

The Sunshine Academy is seeking a dependable, energetic, and team-oriented individual to join our team in a split role supporting both our Afterschool Program and Kitchen Operations.

Position Overview

The Childcare Support Staff – Kitchen & Afterschool role blends two essential areas of our program:

Afterschool Program Support
You will mentor school-age children, assist with homework, and lead engaging activities based on your talents and interests. Whether you enjoy art, sports, dance, STEM activities, or creative play, we encourage you to bring your strengths into the classroom.

Kitchen Support
You will assist in meal preparation and kitchen operations, ensuring food is prepared safely and meets licensing and health department standards. Maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen is essential to this role.

This position requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, positive environment for children and staff.

Afterschool Responsibilities

• Mentor and supervise school-age children
• Assist students with homework
• Lead structured and creative activities
• Maintain a safe and engaging environment
• Foster positive relationships with students and families
• Uphold program policies and behavioral expectations

Kitchen Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing and serving meals in accordance with Licensing and Health Department regulations
• Follow safe food preparation and sanitation procedures
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and dining area
• Ensure proper serving sizes and food safety standards
• Monitor food allergies and communicate necessary information to staff
• Support menu implementation and notify the Director of any necessary changes
• Assist with state reviews and health inspections
• Maintain accurate records and documentation as required
• Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance needs
• Uphold all licensing and risk management requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience preparing meals preferred
• Understanding of safe food handling and sanitation practices
• Strong communication, organization, and basic math skills
• Respect and genuine care for young children and families
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members
• Serve Safe certification preferred
• Ability to meet licensing background and training requirements
• Reliable transportation
