For the past 10 years, TEACH has been supporting students 1-on-1 and in small group settings with exceptional academic, test prep, and enrichment lessons. Our strong connections to local schools and non-profit organizations offer unique opportunities for tutors to be classroom instructors in addition to providing local families with 1-on-1 support. At TEACH we believe tutoring can be a bridge that helps make content more accessible for all students.

We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic educators who are ready to dismantle educational barriers that students and families face and open up educational opportunities through tutoring. We are looking for an experienced Math SAT Prep Instructor who has worked with students scoring in the 50th percentile or above.

This is a part-time hourly position, working with an average of 15 students in person.

Commitment: The commitment is between 2 to 4 hours per week.
Locations include: South Jersey and the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area including, but not limited to, West Philadelphia, Olney, Northeast Philly, and Hunting Park. Tutors must be open to traveling on-site to this area.

Responsibilities

→Prepare engaging Math SAT Prep lessons to meet students’ needs
→Explicitly teach students about the structure of the SAT Math sections and strategies on how to improve their scores
→Review student level data from mock exams and adapt lesson plans based on assessments and students’ skills
→Connect with students from diverse backgrounds and educational experiences to maximize their academic potential and to help them achieve their goals
→Collaborate with a TEACH Program Manager to grow as an instructor and check in on student progress
→Attend monthly virtual professional development with TEACH
→Communicate with TEACH office staff and parents/guardians to coordinate tutoring lessons and check-in about student progress in a punctual manner and with attention to detail
→Submit time-sensitive information using our database and other online documentation

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
2 years of experience teaching Math SAT prep in a classroom setting
Understanding of student-centered learning practices and ACT/SAT Test Taking Strategies
Interest in tutoring with TEACH for 1+ years
Available to travel locally in Greater Philadelphia for in-person lessons
Ability to complete federal and PA state background checks and clearances
A self starter with a solution-oriented mindset
Lives in PA or NJ

Requirements

5+ years of experience tutoring or teaching in a 1-on-1, small group, or classroom setting
Expertise in ACT Math/Science Test Prep

$85/hr for whole class SAT prep instruction; $45/hr for 1-on-1s

Founded in 2011 and home-grown in Philly, TEACH offers exceptional tutoring and educational programming K-College. TEACH’s tutoring approach starts with building strong relationships to promote both academic and social-emotional development through creative, engaging lessons. In a typical academic year, we serve upward of 1600 students through classes and 1-on-1 tutoring, and coordinate partnership programs with 20+ local schools, charter networks, or nonprofits. The majority of our partnerships extend over multiple years and grant cycles. Our team believes that education can be a powerful experience that disrupts the systemic inequities that students, families, and communities face in the Greater Philadelphia area. We strive to increase educational opportunities for students by offering programming at no cost to families through grants with external partners, internal TEACH scholarships, and our Get 1, Give 1 initiative for 1-on-1 lessons.
