Our client is seeking a Director of Application Development to provide strategic leadership and technical oversight across the organization's application ecosystem. This role is responsible for guiding the architecture, development, integration, and ongoing enhancement of ERP systems, web platforms, and custom applications.
The Director will lead teams of developers and administrators to ensure applications are scalable, secure, and aligned with overall business objectives. This position works closely with cross-functional technology leaders to ensure strong system performance, seamless integrations, and effective support for enterprise initiatives.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Direct the development, enhancement, and maintenance of internal and external web applications
- Establish coding standards, development best practices, and CI/CD pipelines
- Ensure web platforms effectively support e‑commerce, customer portals, and internal business tools
- Oversee the administration and continuous improvement of ERP and enterprise applications
- Maintain system availability, data integrity, and overall application performance
- Lead ERP upgrades, patches, and lifecycle planning
- Govern integration strategies, including APIs and EDI workflows
- Translate business needs into scalable, secure technology solutions
- Set goals, conduct performance reviews, and foster a culture of accountability and learning
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing resources and priorities
- Deliver enterprise application initiatives on time and within budget
- Build, develop, and retain high‑performing technical teams
- Partner closely with Business Systems & PMO and Service Delivery teams on enterprise initiatives
- Communicate effectively with both technical contributors and executive stakeholders
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and external development partners
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or related field
- 8+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years in a leadership capacity
- Hands-on background with ERP platforms (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, etc.)
- Experience leading web development teams and modern development practices
- Strong understanding of integrations, APIs, middleware, and data flows
- Demonstrated success in building and developing high-performing technical teams
- Experience in distribution, manufacturing, or supply chain environments preferred
- Familiarity with EDI standards and trading partner integrations
- Strong vendor management and contract negotiation abilities
- Understanding of modern web technologies (HTML/CSS, JavaScript frameworks like React/Angular, and backend frameworks such as Ruby on Rails or similar)
- Experience with ERP implementations preferred
