Tenstorrent is leading the industry on cutting-edge AI technology, revolutionizing performance expectations, ease of use, and cost efficiency. With AI redefining the computing paradigm, solutions must evolve to unify innovations in software models, compilers, platforms, networking, and semiconductors. Our diverse team of technologists have developed a high performance RISC-V CPU from scratch, and share a passion for AI and a deep desire to build the best AI platform possible. We value collaboration, curiosity, and a commitment to solving hard problems. We are growing our team and looking for contributors of all seniorities.

We’re seeking a Senior Embedded Linux Developer to advance the architecture and evolution of our OpenBMC-based firmware. You’ll drive the bring-up of next-generation server platforms, implement advanced manageability features, and maintain our customized OpenBMC Linux distribution. Working at the hardware–software boundary, you’ll collaborate closely with firmware and hardware teams to deliver secure, high-performance BMC firmware. If you love technical ownership and solving complex cross-disciplinary challenges, this role gives you the impact to shape the servers of tomorrow.

This role is hybrid, based out of Toronto, ON.

We welcome candidates at various experience levels for this role. During the interview process, candidates will be assessed for the appropriate level, and offers will align with that level, which may differ from the one in this posting.

  • A senior embedded systems engineer with deep experience building and scaling Embedded Linux and OpenBMC firmware in production environments.
  • Comfortable working at the hardware–software boundary, from ARM SoC bring-up through kernel, bootloader, and userspace services.
  • A technical leader who enjoys mentoring engineers, setting architectural direction, and raising code quality across a team.
  • A strong problem solver with a methodical approach to debugging complex, low-level system issues.
  • A collaborative communicator who works effectively with hardware, BIOS, QA, and security teams.

Requirements

~1 min read
  • Someone to architect, design, and implement advanced OpenBMC features and platform-specific customizations.
  • Own Yocto/OpenEmbedded distribution development, including custom layers, recipes, and BitBake workflows.
  • Lead ARM-based BMC SoC bring-up (e.g., ASPEED AST2600), covering bootloader, Linux kernel, and peripheral initialization.
  • Implement and optimize management and communication protocols such as Redfish, IPMI, PLDM, and MCTP.
  • Drive firmware quality through hands-on debugging, code reviews, security feature integration, and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

~2 min read
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of server manageability ecosystems and large-scale OpenBMC deployments.
  • Advanced BMC security implementations, including Secure Boot, Root of Trust, TPM, and compliance-driven firmware practices.
  • In-depth understanding of ASPEED AST2600 internals and high-performance BMC hardware tuning.
  • Exposure to upstream open-source development workflows and best practices within the OpenBMC community.
  • End-to-end server platform bring-up, from early lab recovery and validation to production-ready firmware.
