Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to a variable patient population based on individual patient conditions and established procedures.
  • Assess, recognize, document, and report relevant patient information and changes in patient condition.
  • Administer prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications as authorized.
  • Perform treatments in accordance with established clinical policies and procedures.
  • Assist physicians and nurses with orthopedic procedures and specialized clinical practices.
  • Prepare patients and assist with diagnostic examinations and procedures.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and following procedures.
  • Recognize urgent and emergent patient situations and initiate appropriate interventions as directed.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding treatment, medications, procedures, and care.
  • Orient peers and ancillary personnel to applicable unit policies, procedures, skills, and standards of practice.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation and utilize electronic health records and other approved systems.
  • Participate in clinic huddles, staff meetings, quality assurance activities, professional development, and other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Citizenship:
    • U.S. citizenship is required for this contract position
  • Education and Licensure:
    • Graduate of an accredited community college, junior college, college, university, or vocational nursing program approved by the appropriate state agency and accredited by CNEA or another acceptable accreditation body identified in the task order
    • Current, active, valid, and unrestricted LPN license in a U.S. state or jurisdiction
    • Documentation of IV therapy training through an approved educational pathway
  • Required Experience:
    • At least one year of active practical or vocational nursing experience in an inpatient or outpatient environment following graduation.
    • Required experience must have been obtained within the past 24 months.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as required by the contract
  • Required Skill and Competencies:
    • Strong knowledge of practical nursing principles and patient care practices.
    • Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to changes in patient condition
    • Knowledge of patient privacy, HIPAA, customer relations, and patient advocacy
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, internet applications, and electronic health records
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Work Schedule & On-Call Requirements:
    • The position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday between 0630 and 1630. Shifts are generally a minimum of nine hours, including a one-hour unpaid lunch period
    • The LPN participates in a rotational on-call schedule, generally consisting of one Monday-through-Sunday on-call week no more than once every four weeks. Telephone response is required within 10 minutes, with physical reporting to the facility within 45 minutes after responding, or within 60 minutes of the original call, when required
  • Physical Requirements:
    • The employee must be capable of meeting the physical requirements associated with the position and assigned clinical duties
