The Occupational Therapy Department on the Manhattan campus is seeking a full time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (C.O.T.A.) to join our team! The location for this role is the Upper West side of Manhattan.
The COTA’s primary responsibilities are to provide specific Occupational Therapist (OT) treatment under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist. This position is needed for coverage and weekend work. He/she works under a written supervision plan established by the supervising OT.
- A COTA may contribute to evaluation but generally should not independently perform or interpret evaluation unless competency has been demonstrated and appropriate supervision is provided.
- A COTA must practice within their individual level of competence and training.
- Reports to OT/Director of Rehabilitation.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out occupational therapy interventions according to the established plan of care.
- Assist residents in improving self-care, functional mobility, upper extremity function, cognition, strengthening and safety awareness.
- Document treatment sessions, patient progress, and communication with the interdisciplinary team.
- Report changes in resident status to the supervising OT.
- Participate in care conferences and discharge planning as assigned.
- Provide therapeutic activities to improve resident/patient ability to perform activities of daily leaving (ADLs).
- Train patients in use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices.
- Observed, document, and report patient progress and responses to treatment.
- Contribute to evaluations by gathering data, reporting observations, and administering assessments delegating by the OT.
- Educate patients, families and caregivers regarding treatment programs and safety
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, facility and New York State regulations.
- Maintain patient safety and infection control standards.
