SUPERVISES: None PAY RANGE: $20.00 - $24.00/Hour DOE

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting and strengthening The Food Depot’s robust volunteer program, including but not limited to leading volunteer projects, implementing risk management procedures and recruitment strategies, onboarding and scheduling volunteers, and assisting with additional administrative tasks deemed necessary.
BACKGROUND: The Food Depot is a nonprofit organization that aims to make healthy food accessible to every person in every community in New Mexico. Through a network of more than 150 distribution sites, The Food Depot distributes healthy food to more than 43,000 people in a nine county region. More than 700 volunteers support the mission through food rescue and packing food for clients.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads Volunteer Activities for The Food Depot (50%):
- Assists with scheduling and coordinating large numbers of volunteers across multiple shifts/projects, including outside organizations and volunteer groups;
- Supervises volunteers at on-and-off distribution site locations including, but not limited to TFD Pantries, Casita de Comida, and Food Mobiles;
- Assists with supervising intermediate evening and weekend volunteer shifts;
- Partners with operations to prepare volunteer workspaces by preparing equipment, organizing supplies, etc;
- Provides clear and thorough instruction to volunteers and leads projects by example, working alongside volunteers as needed;
- Supports volunteers by answering questions, providing supplies, proper training, etc.;
- Fosters a culture of safety by prioritizing risk management;
- Reports incidents, accidents and unsafe conditions to appropriate supervisor(s) and operations;
- Assists operations with breaking down volunteer workspaces by cleaning, preparing equipment, organizing supplies, etc;
- Adapts to changing logistics and problems as they arise, reaching out to leadership as needed;
- Communicates needs, inventory, and issues with Operations, Volunteer Engagement, and/or the Leadership Teams, as necessary;
Volunteer Recruitment and Court-Ordered Community Service (25%):
- Assists with onboarding volunteers by providing prompt communications via phone and email, processing applications, and ensuring setup via volunteer database;
- Maintains volunteer email account;
- Assists with hosting scheduled orientations for onboarded volunteers;
- Facilitates court-ordered community service program: fielding questions, screening and enrolling applicants, and signing off on court-ordered community service volunteers;
- Communicates promptly with court-ordered community service personnel from application process to final approval by courts;
- Creates a welcoming environment for volunteers excellent customer service and volunteer appreciation;
- Assists with maintaining volunteer database (Better Impact)
Supporting Volunteer Retention and Communications (15%):
- Takes photos of scheduled volunteer groups at the conclusion of each group’s shift, including the impact of their volunteer time;
- Takes frequent photographs of volunteers participating in a variety of activities across The Food Depot’s programs;
- Maintains an accurate and timely folder of volunteer photographs in The Food Depot’s Shared Drive Photo Drop;
- Supports collateral for the Volunteer Spotlight to ensure accurate stories and photos are available;
- Supports the Engagement, when appropriate, to attend events that have a high volunteer recruitment possibility;
Other:
- Maintains positive relationships with volunteers, partners, donors, and the public;
- Handles food according to safe food handling practices;
- Assists in the maintenance and care of the facility and equipment; assists in the safety and sanitation of facilities and equipment through compliance with The Food Depot guidelines and any applicable local, state or federal laws or regulations;
- Contributes to building a positive team spirit; puts success of team above own interests;
- Complies with all The Food Depot policies, procedures and systems;
- Performs related duties as required or assigned, assisting other departments, as requested;
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience with nonprofits or office administration;
- Former experience in a position focused on using computers and programs as a primary source of communication;
- Demonstrates a commitment to the mission and values of The Food Depot;
- Ability to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate orally and in print;
- Have excellent customer service skills and be able to interface with many diverse populations, various age groups and people with special needs;
- Customer service background strongly preferred, but not required;
- Strong organizational skills, work ethic and attention to detail;
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines;
- Ability to learn and adapt to changing technologies;
- Able to work an irregular schedule including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as needed;
Physical Environment and Working Conditions:
- Employee will spend approximately 70% of the time working in a warehouse/outdoor environment; approximately 30% of the time in an office environment;
- Must have a valid driver’s license;
- Must be able to maintain productivity in a shared workspace;
- Employee must be able to walk on variable surfaces, bend and lift up to 50 lbs., conduct repetitive motion, and work around machinery;
- In the office environment, employee must utilize paper and electronic documents, a keyboard, computer, phone, and printer to perform necessary job requirements;
- When in the warehouse or working in the field, employee must utilize manual and automatic pallet jacks, scales, pallet shrink wrap and other equipment;
- Ability to travel in Northern New Mexico as needed (using company vehicle);
