Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Force Development Analyst to support U.S. Marine Forces Special Operations Command (MARFORSOC) at Camp Lejeune, NC. This role requires deep expertise in special operations missions, strategic and theater-level planning, and force development processes to enhance operational effectiveness, survivability, and lethality.
The Force Development Analyst will provide senior-level analytical support to MARFORSOC leadership by evaluating operational data, identifying trends and capability gaps, and developing actionable recommendations aligned with strategic guidance, campaign plans, and the Commander’s Training and Modernization priorities. The position supports decision-making up to the two-star level and plays a critical role in institutionalizing lessons learned to improve future operations and training.
  • Conduct comprehensive analysis of operational documentation, including:
  • Before Action Reports (BARs)
  • After Action Reports (AARs)
  • Executive Summaries
  • Post-Activity Bulletins
  • Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Identify trends, gaps, risks, and best practices to reconcile force capabilities with operational demands and strategic priorities.
  • Develop force survivability- and lethality-enhancing concepts, capabilities, technologies, and solutions.
  • Analyze strategic, long-range, and operational plans related to MARFORSOC employment and provide recommendations to improve concepts, plans, and fiscal assessments.
  • Produce high-quality, audience-specific analytical products, including:
  • Briefings
  • Reports
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Spreadsheets
  • Decision-support products
  • Support planning, synchronization, and coordination of MARFORSOC’s Annual Lessons Learned Campaign Plans, including collaboration with Joint Staff, Services, and other Component Commands.
  • Collect, analyze, and integrate observations, insights, and lessons learned into the Joint Lessons Learned Information System (JLLIS).
  • Conduct functional analysis and develop recommendations to align efforts to man, train, and equip forces, including:
  • Force design and structure changes
  • Manpower and funding requirements
  • Updates to doctrine, TTPs, and readiness products
  • Perform post-event and post-exercise analysis to assess immediate and long-term impacts on SOF capability development, training, and employment.
  • Support and provide oversight to the semi-annual Force Development Working Group, including preparing recommendations for MARFORSOC leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with the Lessons Learned Analyst, Combat Development, and Innovation stakeholders to ensure Force Development Objectives are met.
  • Collect, analyze, and brief readiness information as required.
  • Develop and maintain electronic resources to support mission continuity and stakeholder coordination.
  • Prior military service.
  • Experience serving on the staff of a Special Operations or combat arms battalion, regiment, or brigade.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting:
  • Marine Corps Planning Process (MCPP)
  • Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP)
  • or equivalent operational planning processes.
  • Thorough understanding of SOF capabilities, operations, and support.
  • Understanding of multi-domain operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Graduate of an Armed Forces Command and Staff College or equivalent Professional Military Education.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Active Secret security clearance with TS/SCI eligibility.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access to required systems.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Experience supporting senior-level decision-making within a SOF or Joint environment.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate complex operational data into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Experience working in force development, lessons learned, or capability development roles.
