Senior Software Engineer - Analytics and Reporting

The Technical Operations team makes Toast's engineering measurable. We connect tool and resource usage, engineering metrics, and customer outcomes into a single, trusted picture that executives, engineering managers, and developers use every day. We are a small, highly leveraged team. We index heavily into agentic engineering: AI agents are part of how we design, build, test, and operate our systems, and we expect you to push that frontier with us.

• →Serve as the technical lead for the Technical Operations team, owning the architecture and technical direction of our data platform & internal tools and driving significant projects from design through rollout
• →Design and build the data pipelines and integrations that bring engineering, tooling, and cost signals from source systems into a unified warehouse, consuming upstream domains as programmatic data contracts rather than manual extracts
• →Partner with our Product Owner to identify and define the biggest opportunities for impact, and collaborate with your teammates on end-to-end solutions
• →Build the back-end that enables role-based reporting on engineering health, AI and tooling spend and ROI, and cost and capitalization, replacing recurring manual processes with durable, auditable, productized tools & analytics
• →Own quality, reliability, and operational monitoring for business-critical reporting that leaders at every level depend on
• →Mentor less experienced engineers and up-level the team through design reviews, constructive feedback, and agent-assisted engineering practices
• →Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong track record building and operating production data pipelines, integrations, or analytics platforms to automate manual business/operational processes
• Proven ability to drive significant projects to completion from design to rollout, informed by solid technical and business understanding
• Strong skills in SQL and data modelling, plus proficiency in at least one modern programming language (for example Python, Kotlin, or TypeScript)
• Demonstrated, hands-on use of agentic engineering as a core part of how you work: you build with AI agents daily, design workflows where agents do real engineering work, and hold agent-produced code to the same quality bar as your own
• Experience integrating third-party systems and APIs, and designing clear data contracts between domains
• Ability to partner with non-engineering stakeholders (finance, operations, leadership) and translate their processes into reliable technical solutions
• A self-starter mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, biased toward action, and able to lead within a small team
