Responsibilities
~1 min read- Develop and execute an integrated marketing strategy (social, email, web, print, and paid media) that aligns with A4TE’s mission, vision, and organizational goals.
- Identify and implement innovative marketing strategies to enhance mission-driven brand awareness and engagement, donor and volunteer acquisition, and spotlight our leadership and experts.
- Promote A4TE’s mission, programs, and impact through growth-oriented marketing initiatives tied to measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of high-impact marketing materials and content (i.e., brochures, fact sheets, white papers, presentations, etc.)
- Develop audience segments and persona strategies to enhance engagement among donors, volunteers, partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with influencers, community leaders, and partner organizations to amplify A4TE’s message and reach.
- Support rapid response communications and provide guidance on messaging for timely and sensitive issues.
- Represent A4TE at public events, conferences, and community meetings to build awareness and partnerships.
- Lead the creation, implementation, and ongoing refinement of A4TE’s brand strategy to ensure consistency and alignment with organizational values.
- Maintain a cohesive and consistent brand identity across all communications, including digital, print, and in-person experiences.
- Serve as creative director, responsible for A4TE’s overall creative vision and execution, overseeing the creation of compelling high-quality content across various audiences.
- Collaborate with key staff to create a unified, mission-driven narrative that inspires engagement and support.
- Uphold and integrate principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion across all brand and communication efforts.
- Manage and ensure brand and style guide are accurately and consistently applied across the organization, ensuring messaging clarity and consistency across all internal and external platforms.
- Ensure all campaigns are mission-aligned, emotionally resonant, and data-informed for maximum engagement and impact.
- Provide staff training and guidance to ensure A4TE’s brand strategy remains fully aligned across departments.
- Drive awareness and participation in A4TE’s programs, advocacy initiatives, and fundraising campaigns.
- Oversee the planning, promotion, and execution of organizational events from concept to completion.
- Develop event marketing strategies, including messaging, design, and digital promotion across social media and email channels.
- Identify and pursue strategic opportunities for brand exposure such as conferences, sponsorships, partnerships, and speaking engagements.
- Serve as co-chair of the Speaking Request Committee, evaluating and managing public speaking opportunities that align with organizational goals.
- Lead and oversee media relations strategies, including press releases, pitches, op-eds, and crisis communications.
- Identify and cultivate strong press relationships with beat reporters and journalists, influencers, and media partners.
- Lead the Marketing department, including direct supervision of a team which currently includes a Digital Strategist and Multimedia Specialist, and develop a long-term vision for the department’s key bodies of work and anticipated team growth.
- Serve as a member of Advocates for Trans Equality’s Leadership Team, providing overall leadership, strategic direction, and management to the organization, and support strategic planning and budgeting.
- Regularly advise Management Team members on key branding and marketing developments, news, and events. Collaborate with the Management Team members as appropriate to develop strategic responses.
- Hire, train, and supervise department employees and interns, ensuring that recruitment, onboarding, and professional development practices are aligned with Advocates for Trans Equality’s vision and values.
- Serve as a key spokesperson for A4TE and manage media relations to strengthen public perception and visibility.
- Deliver Board and staff trainings about organization-wide marketing matters, as needed.
- Special projects, research, and other duties as assigned.

- Position Experience: A minimum of 7 years of proven success developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and brand strategies that drive engagement and support organizational goals. Strong understanding of nonprofit branding, messaging, and audience engagement principles. Expertise in digital marketing, including social media, email campaigns, SEO/SEM, content strategy, and analytics.
- Leadership: Previous leadership experience — at least 3 years in a leadership or management role, ideally within the nonprofit or advocacy sector.
- Supervision and Management Experience: A minimum of 3 years of supervision, which includes successfully managing, inspiring, and developing a strong team of permanent, full-time employees.
- Content Development Experience: Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling, mission-aligned narratives for diverse audiences.
- Project Management Experience: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive self-starter with strong project management skills. Adept at managing multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining focus, adaptability, and adherence to deadlines.
- Understanding of Transgender Justice: A deep and nuanced understanding of issues affecting transgender people as well as an understanding of how racism, classism, and other systems of inter-connected oppressions affect trans people. Strong belief in A4TE’s mission and the people who are driving the work forward.
- Understanding of Racial and Economic Justice: Ability to utilize a dynamic understanding of the impact of racial and economic justice and systems of inter-connected oppressions to improve equity in operations and organizational decision-making.
- Technological Knowledge: Proficiency with digital marketing and creative tools, like Canva and Adobe, and analytics platforms; ability to adapt to emerging technologies and trends. Technical experience with Every Action or other CRMs desired. Experience in all areas of MS Office 365 and collaborative tools, such as Slack, Asana, and Zoom.
Requirements

- Language Proficiency: Fluency or proficiency in a language other than English, especially Spanish.
- Development Partnership: Experience partnering with development teams to produce marketing materials that support fundraising, sponsorship, and donor cultivation efforts.
- Event Experience: Experience planning, executing, and marketing events—from concept through completion—to elevate organizational visibility and engagement.

What We Offer
~1 min readThe starting salary range is between $135,000 to $145,000. The Director of Marketing is a full-time, exempt position and is not union eligible. The listed salary range is based upon years of required professional experience, the scope of responsibilities, and pay equity with our existing staff. Salaries are only negotiable within the stated range.
