SUPERVISES: Accounts Assistant (if applicable)
MEMBER OF: Finance & Operations Team
JOB PURPOSE
The core responsibility of this role is to manage the Company’s financial records, statutory compliance, tax filings, audit coordination, and financial reporting. The Accountant will ensure accurate bookkeeping, regulatory compliance (FIRS & LIRS), strong internal controls, and effective use of QuickBooks Accounting Software to support management decision-making in a fast-paced technology environment.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance & Accounting Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using QuickBooks (advanced level).
- Prepare monthly management accounts including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements.
- Manage the general ledger, chart of accounts, journals, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Perform monthly bank, vendor, and account reconciliations.
- Process invoices, receipts, payments, and expense claims.
- Monitor accounts receivable and payable to ensure timely collections and payments.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions.
- Provide financial analysis and ad-hoc reports to management.
Audit & Compliance Responsibilities
- Prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
- Liaise with external auditors, consultants, and regulators.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and Nigerian statutory requirements.
- Implement and monitor internal control procedures.
- Support continuous improvement of finance processes.
Taxation Responsibilities (FIRS & LIRS)
- Prepare, review, and file statutory tax returns including CIT, VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other levies.
- Handle monthly and annual filings with FIRS and LIRS.
- Ensure timely remittance of all statutory taxes and deductions.
- Manage tax audits, queries, and assessments from tax authorities.
- Maintain accurate tax schedules and reconciliation records.
- Advise management on tax compliance and exposure.
Payroll & Statutory Deductions
- Support payroll processing and salary administration.
- Ensure accurate calculation and remittance of PAYE, pensions, and statutory deductions.
- Maintain payroll records and employee tax documentation.
Technology & Systems Responsibilities
- Use QuickBooks for advanced reporting and automation.
- Support finance systems improvements suitable for a software company.
- Collaborate with operations and project teams on cost and revenue tracking.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Professional qualification (ICAN, ACCA, ACA) is an added advantage.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 4–6 years relevant accounting experience.
- Strong experience with FIRS and LIRS tax compliance.
- Audit experience (internal and/or external).
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Accounting Software.
- Experience in a technology or service-based company.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and financial regulations.
- Excellent Excel and financial reporting skills.
